Finally given in and decided to get a new printer. Just worked out the old one doesn't owe us a thing, we've had it 12 years!
So, not going to ask for suggestions, just ask - is there any reason for NOT buying this one -

if i may bobbi
work out what you use the printer for - and do you need colour?
I run two printers - an inkjet for the occasional bit of colour i need to do and a laser for main stuff that is monochrome..... it works out cheaper imho
and most HP's seem to be expensive when it comes to buying cartridges.....

I've had my HP colour laserjet 8 years now (its a 3800n) its printed over 85000 pages mostly in colour and I've only just had to buy my 2nd set of cartridges from these people

IMO a bargain considering how much hp want.
I had an all in 1 a while ago it was rubbish, ate colour packs at a fantastic rate.

Having moved over to a colour laser printer a while ago, I'd never go back to an inkjet. Less hassle, better consistency of quality and overall it's cheaper. Wins all hands down.

to add
HP inkjet cartridges are imho expensive - but HP laser cartridges are cost effective
but if i recall correctly Bobbi does photography and there are very few laser colour printers that are as good as inkjet printers for colour?
having said that I used an HP 2600 colour laser and could not fault it at all - i only kept my old desk jet as it had a scanner :)

Printers free with a few sets of toner .... just cheap toner from thereon.

I never print my photos - if I want any printed I get them done professionally.
I do want colour for printing reference pics and maps for the Round Britain Rally, but it doesn't have to be all that great. I want a combined printer that scans as well cos my old scanner has had it too.
Haven't looked at laser printers as I assumed they were more expensive.
And I don't want a wireless one as that's too hi-tech for me!
I tend to favour HP as the old one was an HP and has given great service - I've always used cheap refilled cartridges so the cost hasn't been a problem.
Will have a look at suggestions above.

I've got the big brother to that one, the 8500a+ (or summat like that, it's a load of numbers anyway!). I use it for business, for duplex printing and scanning docs, invoices etc, does colour stuff OK. Not very good for scanning or printing photos, but I've got a decent Epson photo printer for that.
First HP I've had, and pretty impressed with it, but like others have said I'm not looking forward to changing the cartridges, my credit card will definitely take a dent!

Apparently the software for the scanner is rubbish, but working software can be downloaded, I can probably deal with that..
