Right clever peeps - not a computer Q this time.

What does a Bluray player do that a DVD player doesn't? Don't say 'play Blurays' cos I know that - but what's the difference?

On acct of the blue/violet wavelength lasers used.

CDs are 'red rays'. :smt002

Indeed, shorter wavelength to enable the use of the smaller geometries required for the greater data density needed to store the huge amounts of data.

It'll enable them to pump out the same dross but with an even more pin-sharp image (providing you have an HD telly to watch it on).
TBH the quality of normal DVD stuff is more than adequate for most things. It's a great way to charge us more for the same content and fleece the gullible that feel they must replace their existing DVD collection with the new Bluray versions.
