I need a new monitor - can't get the colour right on this old one.

You know I'm a total numptie about these things so I'll just come straight out and ask - if I buy a monito suitable for a 64 bit computer, will it work with my old 32 bit one (which I hope to upgrade in the next couple of years) ?

Hi BG. Not a problem. A new monitor will work just as well with a 32-bit 'poota as it will with a newer 64-bit one. It's just that the 64-bit Operating System may make better use of the graphics to give you a snazzier (technical term) picture.

Mango is right.

Infact, you do not need to upgrade any of your PC components in order to use a new monitor, unless your graphics card doesn't have the right connection, but most come with HDMI and VGA as standard, so unless you have a really strange combination of monitor and graphics card you will not have any issues.

Also - a good quality brand with reasonable prices are Hanspree. They are actually made by Samsung ( a very highly regarded tv/monitor manufacturer) but without the samsung logo.

Take a quick peak here: http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product ... &brand=211

Cheers Dale - that looks like a good buy (supporting bike racing as well - or maybe just K's porn habit!)

I knew this was the place to ask!

Reckon this is the same thing?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HannsG-HL231DPB ... 603&sr=1-1
HannsG HL231DPB 23 inch Widescreen LED TFT Monitor (1000:1, 250 cd/m2, 1920 x 1080, 5ms, Gloss Black)
All the numbers are the same but it says HannsG rather than Hannspree?

Yep, exactly the same monitor. I just provided that supplier as they were the cheapest when i bought mine a year ago. That is a bloody good deal on amazon! mine is a 24inch but i really like it, it is equal to my mates 24inch montiro, but he spent an extra 200 quicd that i didnt spend!

Next question!

What do folks think of Windows7?

I've heard some complaints but people who are happy with something don't post about it so I'm keeping an open mind. Otherwise I won't be getting a new computer till there's a new Windows!

Windows 7? miles better than vista. However, rumor has it that windows 8 will be released at the end of the year. I would be tempted to put up with whatever operating system you have until then.

I would do it now

http://www.software4students.co.uk/Micr ... tails.aspx

(I am certain that you are a student of life? or have a small child you could borrow... having said that, I had no silly things to do when i bought two copies late last year - download and go....)

in your case bobbi, I would get the dvd posted to you

windows 8 is due at end of year but may not like older computers....

oh, while you are there, consider MS Office for 40 quid for the full version, as well as photoshop - BE Warned the photoshop you will need to borrow/make some student id..... i had to email a scanned id card ....

and in light of your interest in photography - you will love photoshop.....
