Which laptop?

#1 Post by MartDude » Sun Mar 13, 2011 8:14 pm

I'm looking for a laptop for my daughter; looking to spend £500 - £600.

Any recommendations on brands to go for/avoid, please?

To go for:

Dell
Acer

Wife has run a couple of Acers now and theyve been very good.
I am a Dell disciple and rate them highly.

Others will have their own views but both Acer and Dell provide good specs at relatively cheap prices.

I suggest checking them out physically at such places as PC Worms, Currys, Staples, then search for a better deal online against those model numbers.

Acer or Lenovo..

Few chaps I know who do IT repair stuff like Dell because they get a lot of business fixing them..lol..

SWMBO's laptop in an Acer.. Pretty high spec and a few 'toys'.. Really good value. Try www.dabs.com for pricing.. Sometimes they come in a little cheaper. :smt002

Don't go for Lenovo - they are nothing but trouble. At work we're just going back to Dell (thank God). They only moved to Lenovo because they got what seemed to be a good deal .....

what does she want to use it for?

depending on that may well open up some other ideas

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

lord yes :)

and reason why i asked - there are some interesting laptops flying around with linux on - and the new HP web os could be interesting - me, personally I would go for a macbook but then i am very biased :)
