Some might consider it a good idea.

Police have uncovered a plot to blow up the UK's Internet hub in London, according to reports from the Sunday Times. If successful, the suspected Al-Qaeda plot could have knocked out most of Britain's Internet services.
The newspaper reported that the Metropolitan Police discovered computer files indicating that terrorist suspects had been planning to infiltrate Telehouse in London's Docklands with the aim of blowing it up from the inside.
Most of the internet traffic for the UK passes through the Docklands facility. The files were found by police after raids on house in the south of England.

I liked this comment, typical of this government to sensationalise things
Without these services, the UK could suffer serious consequences, including severe economic damage, grave social disruption, or even large scale loss of life,'
Dare we ask what we did before computers
I expect MI5 has now bugged all connections through the site

That'd seriously affect a lot of businesses, Ebay would go tits up, not to mention more negative feedback left than you could ever imagine!!
I'd pay to watch the anguish and devastation. No really it'd be funny as..

Just lemme finish selling the stuff ive got on ebay at the mo.

TBO would anyone care if ebay went tits up?
I wouldn't.
In fact I can't think of anything we need less than computers and their sidelines.
I expect we'd get on our bikes more to go and see people instead of bugging them on here.

Thing is, who'd you f off and visit on the bike? The current biking culture is very much internet driven nowadays as far as rideouts and meet ups go. There's only so many times you can visit Boxhill before you get bored with it! Or Odiham, Gt. Yarmouth.. etc, etc.
I think it's underestimated just how big a part of life t'internet has become.
Banking, Medical, MI5/6, Military, Industry.. all rely heavily on communications by internet, no doubt they'd all find ways of dealing with the hub of the UK universe being taken out, but it'd take time, which would have a really substantial effect on life as we know it.
Clearly the RiderSites would survive. We'd just go underground and arrange stuff via ads placed in the biking press... in secret code so those VD lot dont all join in..

You know what theyre like when VD goes down!!

All those services baring industry, used the internet before it became public.
I'm sure we'd make more friends as well without the internet (biking ones) as we'd meet somewhere like Box Hill, after that it'd be phone calls for a ride out.

Yes. However that irrelevant factoid aside. They'd be fekked if it were to go down now.

the removal of one spine from the web would not cause that much hassle, let alone one point of one spine - it might affect us in the uk for a couple of days, but no biggie in the overall scheme of things
mind you, if it were to all go tits up, we would have to start meeting in cafes and sandwich shops... anyone got a good place in mind???
