Digitising 35 mm. transparancies?

#1 Post by MartDude » Sun Apr 11, 2010 11:53 pm

Does anyone here know anything about digitising (digitalising??) 35 mm. transparancies? I've about 200 from my time working in Iran in the '70's, which are beginning to show signs of deterioration, and I'd very much lilke to store them digitally before they worsen.

I'd be grateful for any recommendations for software, hardware, or services.

Thanks

Think you would need to take them in to a photo shop to be put on disk then you can save them to your PC. Don't know of any software that would do this as you would need some form of imaging kit to psychically take the prints.

Dont know if 200 would justify the cost of the hardware? :smt017

Something like this.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

If you're after something like this then you should be able to find them almost anywhere.

Just be warned that most (if not all) will only work on a Windows machine. Mac and Linux users are out of luck.
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Thanks chaps.
Sam, that gadget is avaiable for less than £50 (Amazon etc); just didn't know what to look for. :smt017

Scanning services, after a quick trawl, seem to charge about 75p per image, so buying the hardware looks the better option - as long as it works ok.

My daughter's expressed an interest in them, as she's following the same path (archaeology); tho' I wouldn't want her wandering round the Middle East at the moment.

Aldi recently had this in their specials - I expect that some branches may have some left:

It obviously scans negatives - I guess it will do transparencies too.

Aldi and Lidel have some right good stuff from time to time, I got a percussion drill for £39.99 and it's top kit :smt003 Dare I say, as good as Black and Decker or even DeWalt!
