I've had a Nokia N95 smart phone for just over a year - bought it off a mate when his contract ended.
It's been great - I really liked it.

BUT

I found this "smart phone" is not so smart after all. I took it for a nice little swim in the Mediterranean ..... and it drowned .... stupid phone.

That's what comes of having pockets in your swimming shorts and between swims checking for texts and then accidentally slipping the phone in your swimming shorts pocket rather than your bag ..... Doh !

Guess I'm back to my old phone now then

It might dry out - open it up, take out the battery and sim card, and leave the lot in the airing cupboard for a week. I did that with a phone onec and it worked!

Mind you, I have no idea what a smart phone is!

Yep - took the battery out as soon as I could after I noticed the problem and have been trying to dry it out ever since. SIM is already in my old phone now.
Next step is to strip the phone down completely to get any salt deposit off the pcbs (due to it being in sea water) and to dry it properly.

My sister-in-law put hers through the washing-machine and it survived and my son dropped his old one in the washing up bowl (not sure how - the concept of washing up seems alien to my kids) and it survived.
Not holding my breath for my one though.

Well, at present, the phone's not so smart .... due to the phone's owner being equally dim in taking it for a swim.

I think the best thing to do is to wash the circuit boards gently with denatured alcohol and let it air dry for a few days.

You might be lucky, but you can never tell with these things.

i fear that the phone, even if dried out, will fail shortly anyway - salt water has a habit of doing that as i am sure you are aware....

Count yourself lucky Andy, I recently drowned my phone, came home a little worse for wear recently, went for a pee as you do, phone was in the top pocket of my shirt, not being quite as stable on my feet as normal, I leaned over for some extra support and hay-presto I'm pissing all over my phone!!!!!

Surprise, surprise it didn't go on the radiator to dry out!

..... and the good news ..... after payment of my policy excess, I have a nice new shiny example of my deceased phone (I did enquire about the cost to upgrade it but the value of my arms and legs was not enough to meet their arm and leg costings).

Given that i originally bought the phone off of a colleague when his contract ended, I think I've done all right out of it !
First time I've ever had a brand new phone.


What's more, i've invested in one of those waterproof belt bags too.
