Seriously, has anyone here upgraded to 7 from Vista? Any issues? I find Vista very frustrating. And I can't run the games I had for XP

Windows 7 has a 'XP Compatability Mode' as Alad say's, but only in Pro & Ultimate, not in Premium

but all versions of vista have it i think? which should help mart out short term

If anyone is about to upgrade to Win7, make sure your components are compatible, especially motherboards.
I built a new PC today only to find that the new m/b was not compatible (co-processor error in device manager, no fix available), so new m/b bought and it runs sweet.
Can still use the old, new m\b though so no probs there.

in all seriousness, I have a copy of windows seven - and tescos was cheapest
(BTW - just buy an upgrade version - no need for the full one as it does not check for previous licenses...)
it is friendlier and easier to use than vista, but then and again, it really is vista 2.... well, feels like it anyway
games etc do work well - networking is the normal M$ bollocks though - all about zones etc....
all in all better than vista - and was worth the 50 quid for an upgrade to the home premium flavour

I was going to upgrade but a friend has done so and it's rubbish. He's had no end of compatability issues on his 6 month old PC. Problems with software as well as problems with hardware. Most of the issues he's managed to fix through using Black Magic and a big hammer but it still apparently causes a few problems with AOL (or vice versa) and he had no end of trouble loading the new Call of Duty.
So I think I'll wait a while because, touch wood, my XP running PC is pretty stable at the mo'.

aol.... arseholes on line for long, is most likely the cause of the problem....
that shite software has shafted many a pc

A(lways) O(ff) L(ine) is certainly a very pervasive piece of software. I used them for quite a few years after they 'acquired' Netscape and the resource needed to run their stuff was horrific. To be fair though if you had a problem they were pretty good at resolving it in the old days, and all calls to their techie support were free.
I'm very happy with my set up at the moment tbh. Bought myself a new PC in January which lasted 8 months before the M/B gave up and reverted to the old Acer - which is what I'm typing this on. Decided I didn't need the new one so took it back and got my money back. A bonus of buying it off Sainsburys I suppose. I don't need lightning speed or super dooper graphics or 5.1 surround sound or any of that malarkey. I use the PC to talk tosh on places like this and to do documents, emails, spreadsheets and such like. Occassionally I'll print a picture or two. But that's about it. I have a games console for playing on.
