XP and Service Pack 3

#1 Post by Fausto » Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:16 pm

It's early days as yet but following a clean install of XP on this computer I finally allowed SP3 to install and it's crashed 3 times already. I will persevere for a while longer BUT....

If I decide it's SP3 causing the problems can I remove it ? I'm guessing not.

So it means yet another 'start again' ? If so can I just keep refusing to install SP3 next time. Is there a 'piss off once and for all' button I can press ?

Thanks.

Yes, it's called Linux.

select custom updates and ensure you choose what to update and when

and mac os is better than linux - though i do like linux :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

After my hard drive died my puter came back from the shop with SP3 and haven't had any problems yet!

What a daft thing to say....

Well I too have has SP3 on several PCs for a while now with no problem.

I'm no great fan of Microsoft but I have to admit that their OSs have become so much more robust and reliable these days

....... but then I do remember those dark days of ME ..... from which things could only improve ....

Hmmmm..... so it's just me then.

Thanks for your replies. I will keep an eye on it and see.

Agreed on the turning off automatic updates. If I have to start over that's the way I'll go.

Linux. I have always warmed to the idea and even given Ubuntu a go but was put off by 2 things.

1 - Anti Virus. AVG free and the like don't work as far as I am aware. Should I worry?

2 - This is my do it all pooter and has lots of s/w for bits and bobs such as scanner, printer and Zen MP3. Will these work?

Anyone out there want to convince me to switch ?
