friend just bought one for 250 quid

7" Screen? ..almost as small as my PDA..
Smallest HDD Ive seen in about the last 4 years,
Low 'gizzit' factor.. not even a built in camera on the lower model..or 'surf' model?

the 250 quid model has 512 mb ram and a web cam etc

it runs linux - so forget those nasty windoze requirements - was chatting with my mate via skype and I did not even realise what he was on - ie, it was as good as his mac mini.... and he was surfing the web at the same time, has built in wifi and just works.... for 250 shekels, i do not think you can go far wrong

I like the idea of Linux, but my own Jury is out on a 7" screen..

It may be hipo, trendy cool and chic, but I'd like something a tad bigger..

nod, I believe they were from the queens own regiment

and pop into currys and try one - I remain impressed by what they can do

and as you said, 7 inches is that small it IS portable - ie, almost pocket size...

so you get 3 hours battery life, do not look like a nerd, and can get on the web.... bargain

(mrs Alad does not know we may be getting one... all depends if I can get mac os installed on my toshiba tomorrow!)

Yeah chap at work has one - he's installed windoze on his to run the aps he wants.
One of my nephews has one too.

The new version with more memory and bigger screen will be out soon. I'm waiting to see what that will be like.

wonder what they mean by operating system "Linux Windows XP compatible". Do they mean you can install XP or have to use something like Wine. Cos when I triued Linux I found it was perfectly OK for routine apps, but as soon as you got to add ons you hit problems. For example, I couldnt run a Canon printer with it. Nor a GPS program or a chartplotter.

Quite fancy one since it fills the gap left by the Psion (ie truly portable but with a keyboard). Most lappies are too big, those that arent are too expensive.

So does anyone know - can you uninstall the linux and install XP on one?

Yes - as I said above, chap at work has one and deleted linux and installed XP.

(well I didn't quite say all of that, but that is what he's done).
