simple (I hope) problem ...............

#1 Post by lazarus » Wed Sep 26, 2007 6:56 am

which is that if an e mail arrives with a pdf attachment, and I right click on it, the attachment opens with notepad even though the right click menu says "open with adobe...(default)"

To open with adobe, I have first to save the file to hard disk, leave the e mail client, and first open adobe itself.

Problem happens with both Thunderbird and OE. Using XP home

Cannot find the bit of XP that lists default programs for each file extension.

Isn't it in 'options', 'internet options', 'programs' ?

no. that it of firefox gives adobe as the default for pdf's but it still tries to use notepad, which of course doesnt work.

thunderbird is worse - I cant set the default application because the fields concernes are greyed out. thought this might be because OE is the default e mail client for my wife's benefit, but even changing that makes no difference.

I formatted my pc last week and put v5 reader on at start up.
When I next came to open a pdf file it didn't work, so I put on v8 reader and all is OK.
