So who will have it outa the box?

I'm told I qualify for a free upgrade, but is it worth the risk?

get your free upgrade as soon as you can, and keep it in its box for at least 6 months - then consider it

It will be buggy, and some programs etc will take time to get fixed - I seem to remember that we went through the same process with win95, win98, win ManyErrors and winXP....

I dont think I'd get it until it was released with it's SP2 included. It'd take that long to Beta test it to the point it's semi secure... :smt005

I took part in the beta testing on it, thats why I think they're offering me a free copy.

I like the GUI, but it was buggy and it did crash now and again (nothing like Win 95 tho, which was appaling).

Yeah, but in all honesty it should be free, for everyone! Windows is constantly, sometimes majorly, updated off the back of reports sent to MS. I'd call that Beta testing, which would indicate, to me at least, the product isnt ready for release to paying customers. MS have been like that since... Windows started!!

Come the revolution, Linux will rule.

But Linux isnt backward compatible in the same way - all the extras you have had to compile you have mainly to do all over again in my experience. Windows definitely is less hassle.

Stupid question that I ought to, probably do know the answer to, however it escapes me at the mo..

How do you tell if you've got windows Xp x64?

In fact, doesnt matter. Just tried to download a copy of Inspirat, however the download is corrupted.. softpedia's d/load links only point to two locations, one isnt there, the other corrupted. ah well!
