Problems with AVG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ransome demand !!

A few weeks ago I had a major problem with my old PC when a rather nasty when a rather nasty "ransome" virus got past my McAffee software screwed up my machine then graually dismantled McAffee so it could complete the job. It killed the online virus scan so as soon as I loaded in safe mode McAffe was constantly asking me to run a full scan.
Eventualy otaly screwed the machine and I splashed out on a new one.
Installed Norton inernet security this time then downloaed AVG for antivirus.
It came as atrial version now (think I should have gone for AVG Free).
Got the countdown for he trial and the request to buy yesterday.
Did not uy so now AVG has totally taken over my machine and will not let it load up.
Lopcks up after an instruction "Loaded AVGidsha.sys"
Have managed to log in in safe mode but can do much less than with my old XP software. I am now on Windows 7 Home edition.
Went into AVG and restored the two latest restore files from yesterday and hoped that would be it, but still the same.
I feel like just uninstalling AVG and reloading, but I am worried that if I do this I won't be able to get the PC back working.
Can't even use the Office software I recently purchased as it says it cannot find the licence key.
Seems I have some new ransome software, buy AVG or the PC is fecked, what a pile of shite !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody else know of is prolem??

Major worry is that I also later installed AVG on this netbook and and the new smart phones that me and the wife just bought!

norton internet security and AVG.....

both are anti virus products and will not like each other.....

start the computer in safe mode, and have no ethernet / modem cable plugged in

go through control panel and uninstall them both

(read http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-Norton ... t-Security - i do not use any norton products on principle now....)

re avg - its a good product - but i now use microsoft security essentials ...... it works and is a part of windows....)

call me if you get really stuck and i will try to talk you through it

My oven repair bloke has just arived, so will have to sort that out now.
I have a Norton Internet Security package, that came with my Netbook which I renewed, but it is just what it says and does not include advanced antivirus so cannot protect against a virus getting on the PC in other ways. I thought I would use AVG for that as everybody seems to like it.
I think I may have downloaded the free trial AVG rather than the Free AVG by mistake.
I have constantly been reminded about he free trial ending in XX days.
The last day was yesterday.
Norton and AVG ran together fine through the 30 days.
Then today the PC would not load and when finally got loaded in Safe Mode it could not see any Office software licence keys, then could not seem to get into Safe Mode on subsequent reloads.
I was worried about uninstalling AVG as that seemed to be what was controlling everything.
Uninstalled AVG on this netbook as problem not showing the same on this.
Just trying to get the PC to load in Safe Mode again, whilst bloke is working on the oven.

Back shortly ...............................

Managed to load PC in Safe Mode again and did a restore to a convenient Microsoft restore point yesterday and now the PC loads up and seem to be OK, so I have uninstaled AVG.

Now doing a reboot so fingers crossed.

PS. Tthe oven repair was done quickly and much cheaper than expected so perhaps it is a lucky day after all.
Really good bloke he came earlier in the week and took the built in oven out to investigate, found a grill element with a dead short and ordered the part, then came today and took oven out again and fitted the new element.
Cost .................. £65.

I priced the element up at £79, but unsure if it was tha,t so called somebody in.

Glad I did in this instance. :smt023

Thanks for your offers of more help Pete.

This sort of rubbish is on the up. I had one last week - we are the police, you are a paedo, give us hundred quid sort of deal. Safe mode, system restore and reboot fixed it. First virus I've got since 486's were considered posh.

I was using MS security essentials, still am. But I did run Norton power eraser using the root kit scan option for a bit of piece of mind. It's free so it wouldn't hurt.

I use Avast. The freebie. We also use it at work. Not had virus issues ever. Never used Norton or any other pay-for virus protection, infact the pay-for systems tend to give more issues than using nothing at all.

AVG used to be good, got popular, then went shit. I've been waiting for Avast to go down the same route, but 6 years in it's still doing the job it's designed to do. :smt002

All seems fine now AVG is uninstalled, althouigh did have to do it twice, using CC Cleaner Tools.
Thanks for your help and advice, I will certainly have a look at other options now I have got around the blackmail option from AVG.
I will certainly have a good look at Avast and Microsoft security essentials.

That's what surprised me Tim.
Can't be absolutely certain, but the boot up was stopping at the AVG load the first load after I failed to buy the software and what else would be stopping the Microsoft Licence details being seen so I could not load Office software.
I could be wrong but something strange happened.
On the last day I ran some AVG scans and system checks which started giving me "gloom and doom" results, your PC is full of shite, you can only do so much with the free version, buy the full software etc..
Why was the machine so full of shite if I had been running the full AVG software on trial for a month, (and only had the new PC a month), can't be worth buying if it missed all that lot!

Hmm.. How very strange! Mine said something like 'OI, knobber, you gonna buy this then?' to which I replied 'Sod off' and then after it called me a tightwad it allowed me to revert back to Free with no problems at all.

I can on ly imagine you had a trojan that had wheedled its way into things that deeply it affected AVG's renewal.. how very peculiar

I once had a similar problem with AVG, uninstalled it and installed a fresh version I think. Ever since AVG hooked up with MS it's become difficult to find the download for the free version and I's installed a trial of the pay version.
