Amazing trip last week. Just a couple fo minor rain showers but other than that it wall to wall sunshine.
So, worst bit - going across the M62/M60 to Chester - but quickest way to get to North Wales. Then the traffic around Bristol to get to Wells at the end of what was an amazing ride from Dolgellau.
Best bits _ pretty much every road in Wales, especially the route from Dolgellau to Machynlleth then on to Aberystwyth. Then on to Builth Wells then on to Monmouth and down the Wye Valley to Chepstow - Just wonderful.
Coming home we stayed over in Ironbridge and had a great run via Hay on Wye then Much Wenlock. Only problem was navigating the B4423 over the Black Mountains to Hay on Wye - it was very very narrow with high hedgerows and 8 miles of blind bends. A lot of gravel stones and mud and water to negotiate to. Average speed was about 15mph and thankfully we only encountered about 5 vehicles coming the other way. A tractor and one other car had to reverse back to a passing pace to let us through (I couldn't "back pedal" with Jules on the back and it was too narrow to turn the bike round. A F***ng AA van nearly wiped us out!. Once we got to the top of the pass the road widened a little so the run down into Hay was more enjoyable and Jules hads topped crying by then !!
Couple of recommendations - Do not stay at the Trem Hyfryd Guest House, Dolgellau. The website looks good but the place was very run down. the people are very helpful but they just don't have the resources to carry out the necessary refurb work. Run by a bike racer and had great secure storage and workshop facility if you need it. breakfast was good but at £90 per night it was way over priced.
Do stay at the White Hart Iron bridge - amazing food (gastro pub style) great cask ales and lovely rooms... £69 double room with breakfast.
Couple of pics to follow, when I get them off the camera.
Thanks for all the tips - you did not disappoint
