From another forum, there are reports that a lot of insurers are sneakily dropping the 3rd party cover you have to ride someone's bike that does not belong to you.
Worth watching out for that one when you change or renew and also if you are thinking of letting a mate have a go on your bike .... or test rides when buying or selling .....

I've been with Carole Nash for a few years now. Stayed with them mainly due to their reputation and the fact that all of the extras - ie. breakdown etc, are the real thing not just some token effort so they can charge you more.
Their quote is always too high come renewal time but after some shopping around and haggling with them they tend to almost match everyone else. I am happy to pay a little extra for the convenience of not changing insurers every year, as well as their reputation for service. As an added bonus, their TPFT cover includes riding other peoples bikes (never seen the point of fully comp cover on a bike which is worth so little in financial terms).

For those of us that like to change bits on our bikes, Carole Nash tends not to be that good as they seem not to offer insurance for modified bikes .... which is quite ironic give they sponsor the "Britain's got biking talent" competition to find the best bike build and also have great stands of custom bikes at the shows.

I'm with Carole Nash on a rider policy (fully comp, got 4 bikes on it), so can't really tell if it's any cheaper. The first quote they give you will be OTT, but give um a ring and chat to them.. Managed to get meself a pretty good deal.. Recommend asking about the rider policy if you have more than 2 bikes. 

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

Had a chat with them about this at renewal time this year. Upshot was that most modifications come under the banner of accessories- ie they are just bolt-ons as opposed to altering the power output of the bike. Ah OK - maybe not as bad as I'd been led to believe - though it may be hard to argue that an aftermarket can and a PCIII to make the thing fuel properly don't affect performance (dunno whether they do or don't as that was not the object of fitting them).back_marker wrote:Had a chat with them about this at renewal time this year. They only want to know about performance mods to the engine.. That doesn't include fancy exhaust systems or ECU chips.. That's more or less what the bod from CN said when I did mine. IF on the other hand you change anything inside the engine, then it can get tricky.

motorcycledirect.co.uk on go compare, it was my first ever bike last year so no NCD and i had 6 points at time, went fully comp which also included AA breakdown cover, without the points would have been £150 ish but it's really going to be about your postcode. Had never heard of the company before and was a bit sceptical but the AA had to be called out once and when i declared all my mods/extras they were fine and didn't ask any awkward questions
