Removing decals/stickers.

Morning folks,
I was thinking about losing the SL1000Falco decals off my bird. My question is how best to achieve this?
Are they lacquered in or not? Can this be done as a DIY job or something more specialized?

Not 100% sure but I seem to remember reading somewhere - maybe in a RiDE bike buying guide for a Mille - that graphics are prone to coming off as they are not lacquered over. Guess this would also be true for the Falco.
I know that a lot of Ausies and Yanks on the AF1 forum have removed the Zorro stripes from the paint schemes they got - so I think this is possible.
Not sure of the best way to do it though.
Have you done a search? I've an idea someone did post up about this.

mines mat black and they are'nt laquered but on the tank the decals are laquered over.i think where you've got a laquered finish it will be over the decals.

Most of my original stickers were stuck on over the paint and so just peeled off. It helps to get them warm - hot sunshine or a hairdryer will help but be careful with the hairdryer!
Some glue will probably get left behind. WD40 will remove this.
One or two tank decals (Aprilia and World Champ ones) are obviously laquered over so leave them alone.

Mine are laquered over (bronze black bike).

As per Nooj - mine are laquered over but..... I put some duct tape on the tank when we went abroad the other week to protect it from scratching straps etc. When I took the tape off it brought the laquer off too. Not too bad only around the bollocks area on the tank. Will have to fit a tank protector .

Thanks for the tips folks. I'm ff this weekend so hopefully I'll get a chance to get in the garage and see if they can be teased off with a bit of heat from a hairdrier.

A belt sander would be fairly effective.

Just for future information of others who may wish to remove their stickers/decals (i.e. Newbies like me)
Wifes hairdrier used to tease off the decals at the front of the fairing.
******** Lowest heat setting on the drier is quite sufficient ***********
Job finished in five minutes and a wipe over with a tissue and WD40. Easy peasy.

Well no they're not removed and they're all laquered in, it was only on some models they put the cheap decals on that peeled off. Currently the SL1000 on the nose cone is lacquered over along with the stripes and lions head.
