Whoops .... riding along and it dropped off !

There I was, having overslept this morning, trundling along to work ..... going up through the gears ..... and then there were no gears available.
The lack of feeling in my toes for anything solid suggested the gear lever had gone on strike and walked out and a quick glance down confirmed that I no longer had a gear lever.

Fortunately I was within half a mile of work so got here with my one-available gear.

The lever was still there thanks to the linkage but the pivot bolt has gone AWOL.

I guess that to get home, I can pinch the one from the rear brake (which, as we all know, is a bit of an over-kill luxury on a bike with so much rear-wheel engine braking) and find a cable tie or a bit of string or something to stop the rear brake lever from flapping about.

Makes me realise that I still haven't had time since buying the Fut to go over it and check bolt tightness etc .....

It happens, stuff works loose, and thankfully it was a bit of a comedy moment and not more serious ....
Last summer I had been on a training course in Weston-super-Night Mare, leaving in rush hour traffic and my foot kept slipping off the left foot peg going round the last roundabout before the M5, pulled over and found the retaining bolt had unwound itself, about another 3 turns of the bolt and the footrest would have flown off to freedom on the motorway,

I've only ever ridden one Norton - a Jubilee. It was shite !

All that fuss about the "oh so wonderful featherbed frame" - absolute nonsense.

Well I went for my usual lunchtime walk today and half way along the dual carriageway, nestling in the gutter, was the pivot bolt that had fallen off.

I now have a spare for next time!

When I say "nestling in the gutter", I'm referring to the bolt - not myself.

Agreed ..... but there is more .....

My mate at work has been turning his house upside down for a month or two. Last year he bought his Mrs a ring but a diamond had popped out and they couldn't find it anywhere. Last week his Mrs gave up and took the ring back to the jewellers and as it was so new, they decided that the mount was faulty and fixed it FOC.
My mate was with me yesterday on our lunchtime walk and less than 5 mins before we found my bolt he showed me a picture on his phone that his mrs had just sent him .... you guessed it ..... the missing diamond!

What are the chances?
