Help in the North?

Howdy, I'm staying with friends near Hexham for a couple of weeks but my Falco just failed it's MOT on wobbly front discs. All my tools are in Nottingham and paddock stands are in Birmingham!

Any kindly souls roundabouts willing to give me shelter and tools for an hour or so while I switch discs? I'd pay for it to be done but I'm on an absolute shoestring and the discs are expensive enough.

Oh - and if you've got a source for a sub-£200 pair of discs that'd be neat!

Need to sort it this week really!

I have those disks on mine, front and rear. Only had a problem with the rear once, and the disk was replaced free of charge despite being out of warrenty.

Discs arrive tomorrow - I'm going to see what the local garage want off of me to do it since the discs were a bit less than I was expecting - but I may yet need some help!

Must be a way to do it without a paddock stand...

It's a long shot but you could try a shop on the "Hill" there are a few down there and you might get someone who would allow you to swap them out yourself using their kit or do it for a reasonable price, Armtrongs or Hunters or there is a tyre place just off the Westgate road towards St James park that does tyres.

I rode down past there on Saturday night (yes I know) on the way to a gig... I did wonder if a tyre place could sort it - there's only 12 bolts once the wheels out.

If you think how fast they can whip off a wheel I can't see it being a problem.

In desperation I have lifted the Falc front end with a bottle jack and soft wood blocks under the oil tank, BUT it was on a proper bike ramp with tie downs on the bars and swing arm (abrv ;)
Not text book but works if you are sensible

Be very careful if you try this, as the oil tank is secured via rubber mounted bolts, and if you try to jack it up the rubber mounts can pull out!
That's without considering possible damage to the oil tank.
I once had exactly the same idea when I first got the bike, (with wooden bocks and a rubber mat underneath the oil tank), and stopped instantly when the tank started to move and I noticed the rubber mounting coming out on what should be the sealed end!
Somebody had obviously tried it before.
It should be fairly solid if the rubber mounts are secure, but I wouldn't risk it again.
I use the Ultipro (or Abba) stand to lift the back, then get the wife to sit on the pillion and use a nylon rope to tie the bars to a beam in the garage, has worked many times for me.
Saves having to ask the wife to stay on the pillion for hours.
