Pooooweeeerrrr!
Oh how I love dragging all you falco boffins into the rsv zone. The lovely willopotamas and his mate Lee have done a little work on the Mille today, changed the air filter had half Of it apart, put it back again, found it has a smaller front sprocket than standard anyway and teased me with his renegade airbox conversion.
End result, is that apart from spending the day in good company (complete with a guest appearance of d-rider) the most crucial thing I've found out is that the Mille still feels less than overwhelming powerwise. I was told before I bought one that it was a bit of an animal but the blade has been much quicker and more exciting.
I'm confused to say the least. I love the drama and the grunt of the Mille but it doesn't wheelie off the power or feel rediculous and mental as I thought it would. A friend has a power commandered one that does 130bhp at the wheel and wheelies through the first 3 gears on the power Whig sounds awfully exciting if a little dangerous. More importantly it sounds far different to mine.
Either I'm down on power, doing it wrong or have been told it's an animal but the fine print says after tuning. Can anybody shed some light or give me some advice before I do something mental and try to part exit for a zx10r!?
(not really I'm still skint as I've just moved into a flat but still...)

With respect
Ride it like a v twin not an in line 4.....
Try looking at the rev counter and work on the mid range - 5000 revs to 8000 revs are the fun range I find
But - post up with how the bike feels during a caning.... Also compare it to your falco....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I always thought the ecu restriction was us models only but it's worth checking. I'll feel silly if it is that because D-Rider suggested it ages ago.
I do rely on the lower rev range than the too end but I guess I'm still getting used to v-twins. Eitherway it's not as brutal as I expected...

Certainly the airbox has been de restricted (I was there when Will swapped the filter).
Dunno whether the wire snip has been done or the exhaust restrictors (Milles have those, Falcos don't).
The only difference with the restrictors for US bikes and ours is that the US bikes air box restrictors were more restrictive than ours.
Just so that everyone is clear, it is obvious that Matt has been trying everything to get a bit of extra speed out of it. His attention to detail is mind-blowing. Even the rear disk pads were specially lightened by the complete removal of friction material over parts of their surface.
Matt - A Power Commander's may or may not make it quicker. It's purpose is to allow you to adjust the fuel map so that it burns better (or worse if you screw it up). A by product of optimising the fuelling is that you may improve fuel consumption or power or both (or if it was pretty well set up anyway, neither).
What they do is help you sort things out as you make changes to the exhaust and/or intake systems.

Cheers mr Andy! By the way it was good to see you again.
As for the exhaust restrictors, I was under the impression they were in the standard end can, is that right. I need to look into the wire snip mod I think. Havn't the foggiest where to look though.
And yes, attention to detail, having meat on the pads would be weighing me down somewhat. I might even have lost a little bit off the microns of rear disn I possibly ground off...

Because I could, I went reading....
There is an exhaust restrictor in the standard exhaust -
As well as riding a Mille/ falco that has been derestricted, get on of us to have a trundle on your Mille - we will soon tell you!

Does sound like the wire has not been snipped.....Exhaust bung in standard can is easily spotted too. Just remove it and look up the pipe that bolts to the downpipe. You should see nothing.......if you see a cone type item with two bloody great spot-welds holding it on, thats a restrictor and it needs persuading out with a cold chisel and a big hammer.

Might even find a moment when we can both have a playOddkid wrote:That'll be Will or Andy then! Whichever of those fine gents offers first are more than welcome! I doubt you'd fancy trundling all the way from the eastern swamplands to have a go haha.
Aftermarket can is on the bike now so I think that restriction has been bypassed.

My Mille is 127bhp at the back wheel ,but has smooth power from 2k to the limiter,my falco which has a rossi chip & a set of motad cans with baffels in & higher gearing than my mille, but it wheelies in the 1st 3 gears no trouble just a tug on the bars & no clutch, got board last year on the french paege & was wheeling away from all of the pay kiosks, & by the way Im crap at wheelies,I just think the Falco is a hooligan bike
the mille is more a finelly honed tool for fast road & track work oops sorry officer
