Just thought, Hishy, you'll also need the pannier spreader bar - you can just see it sticking out from behind either side of the number plate

These aren't that easy to get hold of - but it sounds as if youre up to fabricating one. I'd be glad to show you mine :smt107

BTW that's Nooj applying his special brand of elbow-grease

Well she is mine :). Absolutely love it, i'm amazed how quickly it drop into the corners, took a little getting used to but it's very stable, the a few minor scuffs here and there, and the left hand mirror glass is cracked but only where i see my arm reflected so not a major issue. It's a UK bike so no headlight worries though sadly no service history apart from the that 3 MoT certs, which shows it's done 4k miles in the last 3 years. But they have put a new battery on.

So 1st up will be fresh oil and filter and air filter, check to see if wire mod is required, order up some crash bungs and souce a centre stand as it's been taken off at some point.

will post some pics tomorrow, but i love the fact that after 100 miles most of which was motorway i could walk after i got off thats something that just doesn't happen with the 6r :)

Nice one! Re crash bungs - R & G are still, I think, the only supplier who do bungs specifically for the Fut - it's to do with the spacers needed to get the bungs through the fairing slots. It's usually a bit cheaper to get them through a local dealer - then you don't, or shouldn't, pay carriage.

Oil - - semi-synth only - otherwise the clutch will probably slip.

Check the fuel quick-disconnect - if it's still got its OEM plastic one, replace it ASAP with a metal one - they get brittle with age and break easily. Source & part numbers here : http://www.apriliafutura.co.uk/atoz/fuelqd.shtml

Could be worth taking it, in the near future, to Griff (Aprilia Performance) in Tamworth, to give it the once over, for peace of mind?

What are the tyres like? Just wondering if they might have gone a bit hard, if it's not been used much in the last few years. (Sorry - I'm probably telling you stuff you're well aware of). If/when they need changing, I'd recommend very highly the Michelin Pilot Road 2 - very good in the wet, and they're gaining a reputation for longevity. I had Avon Azaros before; they really seemed to suit the bike as well, and I'm told the Storm2 replacements are even better. Didn't like the Metzelers (Z4?) on the first Fut - didn't seem to drop into bends quite as nicely as with the Avons or PR2s.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting up and having a good natter.

All the best

BTW I've got a spare owner's manual if you need it.

Aye semi synth all the time the rotax doesn't like fully synth as i found out on the falco, tyres look ok, rear looks fairly new the front has seen more miles, but it's a mez 4 on the back and a sportec m3 on the front i had a set of sportec m3's on the falco and quite liked them, a lot better that the OE mez 3's which i hated, but overall i'm not a huge metzeler fan, prefer michelins or bridgestones in general.

the fuel disconnect is a nice metal one :smt007, but I will need to do the wire mod, i have the brown connector and at idle charge circuit is pumping out 13.6v, at 4000 rpm thats dropping to 13.1.

The complete toolkit is there including the c-spanner.

Apart from the few minor blemishes it looks like it's been looked after reasonably well, probably gonna forgo the centre stand until a cheap one comes up on ebay, but i'll invest in an abba stand or similar, as the micron stand i have i've never really liked and it's no good for the fut fut anyway.

Likewise will be good to meet up and have a natter, the kwak will stay in the garage tomorrow, will give the fut a trip to quat cafe then go explore wales :)

Now i just have to remember to be a bit firmer on the ole gear change, had forgot about the 1-2 gear false neutral :smt003

Aftermarket reg/rect (e.g. Electrex) should improve the charging; but don't fit that and do the wiring mod as well - that'll fry the battery.

I sometimes find a false neutral bewteen 2 and 3 if I'm not firm enough.

Here's another thought to convince you you made the right choice : if you stand behind the bike, looking along its 'back', look how its lines swell out round the fairing and tank, then narrow in to a slim waist at the seat, then swell out again. Looks like Sophia Loren in her heyday!

I think the ride home made me convinced i did the right thing, once i've gelled with it the kwak may even go, i love it but it plays havoc with my back/wrists/knees but the pain is worth it lol

I think i'll stick to the wire mod, just need to stock up on some heat shrink, probably do that this afternoon.

Most owners find exactly the opposite - perhaps you're still too kwacker-shaped :smt002

nah it's the kwak that kills me, the futura is so comfy it's unreal.

Had a great day out on the futura, quat for brekkie, though cleobury, clee hill to prestigne, then back via craven arms coffee and cake at tuffins, saw another futura, same colour had a wee chat with him, then back though the lanes to bridgnorth, more coffee at quat, then home.

had a rest for an hour or so, did the wire mod, now 14.1v at 4000 rpm,so made a volt :smt004

to top it all i'm pretty sure the kwak will be sold before too long, as much as i love it the futura makes a far better road bike, and i could walk when i got off :)

All in all, best money i have spent on a bike ever!, am chuffed :smt003

And just think what mods i can do once it kwak has gone :D

Who's a happy bunny, then?! Glad you're so pleased with it.

Had a thought re pannier brackets & spreader bar. I don't usually ride much during the week - do you want to borrow mine for a week to copy them?. If your upper (i.e. just under the seat) mounts are missing, I have a brand new spare set which were sent by a confused Ultimate Parts (despite them being given the correct part numbers).
