Aprilia racing at the TT !

#1 Post by D-Rider » Wed May 30, 2007 10:47 pm

I was just looking through MCN to read what they had to say about BikeFest - in particular to see how many bikes we'd had on track for the KillSpills laps - and found a big fat nothing !
The word BikeFest was mentioned in the briefest of articles on KillSpills (approx 140 words in total!) but nothing about Bikefest and no mention of the record attempts designed to bring attention to the KillSpills message - I was disappointed to see nothing about this in the national press but when the biking press can't be bothered to cover this properly, what hope is there!

Right, Rant Over .... Aprilias racing in the TT ....

On a more positive note, MCN reported that the Aprilia factory will be supplying 2 RSV-R Factories to race in the Superbike, Superstocks and Senior TT races. They will be ridden by Mark Miller (an American) and Dave Milling (a Cumbrian).
Clearly Aprilia were thinking "Mille" when selecting riders from the list of surnames they must have had in front of them .....

The article suggests that Aprilia may be dipping their corporate toe in the waters of Road Racing and if things work out may expand to the NW200, Ulster GP and maybe others as well.

It would prolly be like banging yer head against a wall, but an email rant to MCN might vent some steam. :smt002

that would be MCN who have pissed off the other publishers so much that they do not cover anything unless they do it themselves?

sounds about right

Can't see them getting the top end speeds that are required for road racing out of the Vtwin TBH. They'll not match the IL4's IMO.

But it'd be nice to sit there and watch/listen to em rumble past. :smt020

The last few years there's been a French dude on a Voxan racing at the North West. He was always last but he got the biggest cheer and the biggest wave and the sound of that bike was just awesome. He wasn't there this year and he was missed.

Spoke to the Aprilia team whilst over at the TT, both bikes from the factory but in a low state of tune (about 155bhp) but confident of a reliable run and good handling. They wanted a finish to show the factory that the TT is not all about winning, something Aprilia take very seriously.

Apparently the factory have a policy of not entering anything if they don't feel they can win (some-one should have had a word with the Moto GP team manager then!!)

Hinted strongly that Aprilia may have a much more serious go at the TT if not next year then in 2009, so watch this space.

For the record, they sounded fantastic and finished as follows:-

Mark Miller 26th place race average 115 mph Dave Milling 42nd place averaging 112.9mph

As usual the TT was utterly brilliant, only saw 1 Falco (poor show) but loads of "T"s (common as muck) :smt005 :smt005

You'd think with an attitude like 'not entering unless we're winning' you'd think theyed have thought of 'not spending if its gonna send us bust' but they seem to miss that obvious point time after time :smt002

And 115 average is still bloody good and should be compared to a similar powered bike, ie the new 600's.
