Sprag has sprugged it's last

#1 Post by KitchenSync » Mon Feb 11, 2013 3:35 pm

Well it's finally given up the ghost after many weeks of clicks and bangs as the Falco wouldn't start in the damp garage. Now the engines not even turning over and I'm stranded. Without the funds to replace it, what am I going to need to spend just to repair it - I read that it can be done if there's no catastrophic damage. Anybody done it?

Yes. I have just fitted one to kerrys old bike. I found it reasonable to do. Griff sells the sprag clutches for around 90 quid delivered :smt002
Price for oil and filter change at the same time.
Tolerance will be our undoing.

Nightmare mate. Mine started showing signs of being on its way out a couple of years back so I swapped it out.
I got a Ducati sprag clutch (identical) and it was about £20 cheaper than the Prilla item! Cant remember which model but it'll be around on the forums somewhere.
As Blinkey says: Not a particularly hard job, just budget fer an oil change!
Two is the magic number... ;)

Isn't there an equivalent BMW or KTM part that's cheaper still than the Ducati part?

Yes - it's posted up on the forum somewhere.

Cheapest of all is Pierre's fix linked from my earlier link
