Been on one of those dyno things

#1 Post by wayofthedarkhand » Sat May 05, 2012 12:52 pm

Never been to one before so thought i'd be fun.

Saw some nice flames out of the exhaust coming off the throttle at full tilt.

As suspected, my Falco's poor fuel consumption is due to it over fuelling, running rich at low throttle positions, which is where it spends most of its life.

What's the cure? Power commander? Chip?

112BHP so as expected

Torque curve - 70.9ft/lbs

Just for fun, here's my old ZX9R dyno print out:

Ride it with the throttle open more... :smt005

What's done to it in the way of mods? I assume it was derestricted properly and had the wire snipped?

iirc your bike is totally standard

i would decide what you want the bike to do - better mpg, better mid range etc

then work out what you want to enable that - i.e. exhausts, air filter etc

then get a gabro chip to suit

and seastar first saturday runs :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Derestricted, airbox bit removed and wire snipped.

It's running Beowulf cans.

Everything else it stock.

Pretty happy with how it rides, better efficiency at low throttle levels would be nice as that's where I ride it most.

tune up? balance exhausts etc? :smt017 if you did the air box did you remove theb trumpet bit as apparently that can help with MPG
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Need to get my hands on a set of vacuum gauges.

Here is the airbox:

A new high flow filter will help lean things out a bit, but on large throttle openings the it might then become a bit too lean, not that i spend much time there. I'm usually always below 6.5k rpm unless i'm just having a bit of a hoon.
