Falco won't start

Hello

I hadn't started my falco for over a week but when i went to start it yesterday a problem occured.

first off all it started but only ran for a few seconds before dying, so i started it again and the same thing happened, tryied to start it again and the engine turned over ok but didn't come to life and a "no start" message appeared, so i switched it off and on againe turned it over and it fired up again for a few seconds and died again tried again and the "no start" message again.
but after swithching off and on again the situation repaeted its self.
the last time i tried it i got a diag 1 message. so i left it alone.
I went to try it again today the engine turns over fine but no signs of life.

before this started to happen yesterday i had the tank lifted to clear the drain pipe so i was wondering if i had knocked something while i was doing this. I didn't try to start it before I did this though so i don't know if the fault was already there

I think it is getting fuel because i can smell it when it turns over.

i hope its a problem i can sort my self i don't want to have to take it the expensive bike doctor if i can help it!

thanks in adavnce for any help.

MH

Check your tip over switch is properly fixed in place and is the right way up.
It fits just behind the tank under the rider's seat

Hmmm

I remember moving that slightly yesterday i bet i didn't straighten it up again before i put the seat back on, i'll get on to that first thing tomorrow hopefully thats what the fault is. as i have taken tomorrow off work to sort the problem i might get some riding done fingers crossed

Thanks for that D Rider
much appreciated.

I agree andy but only because flatlander and myself dicovered this when we put his tilt switch back up side down on his bronze one :smt017
After a bit of investigation and having to remove the seat again we spotted it, turned it over and the falco started and ran :smt044

And that is a fine example of why you never let me near a spanner just being close to one and not touching it I can still jinx it ;)

Have a look at section 6.4.2 of the workshop manual - it tells you what to do if EFI doesn't come up.

It also tells you how to check fault codes.

I would also give the fall sensor a shake in case the ball inside has not seated properly.

Can't remember if the Fall sensor allows fuel injection system to run when it senses a tip over. If it does, you may have flooded the engine. If so, try starting it with the throttle held wide open - that usually clears it.

The workshop manual can be downloaded from Martin Poll's website (get the OCR one as that is searchable)
