153.5 miles to dry

The reason I know that is I'm freezing my ass off on the hard shoulder of the m23.

Had enough fuel to get me to my destination 145miles away. Then satnav throws in a wrong turn.

Nah, I'm pretty chilled. Carole Nash aa patrol will here in 10mins with 5l of fuel.

What it does mean though is that on a long motorway run, the bike has done less that 40mpg again.

I need to get that looked at.

Wad travelling between 5-6k rpm around 80+ mph.

I'd say your MPG is pretty typical and there is not much you can do about it.

On long motorway runs keeping it all well tucked in and less than 6,000 rpm, I have seen 150 miles until the light comes on but more typically it'd be around 120 - 130 miles. Every day comuting sees around 110.

Indeed - "your miles to dry" seems pretty impressive to me

Seems piss poor to me, considering the bike is specified at 42mpg, so should have a range of around 166miles especially cruising.

Bike manufacturers usually test mpg pretty well unlike car manufacturers with their 15min rolling road test.

I've never come across a bike that hasn't performed to its rated mpg or better when cruising along.

The ZX9R has a tank 1 litre larger. Yet it's possible to get over 200miles from a tank, but more like 170 on average. The ZXR750 was even better.

It did 148miles on the way back and I got 18.50 liters in it.

Anyway, other than that the bike is going well.

The fuel light comes on :smt023
Petrol station is the next port of call.
42 mpg is acurate i would of thought under perfect test conditions not on a motorway or A road.
I would just accept that the bike does what it does and thats it.
Thats the bad bits out of the way.
The good bits are ... You have a very rare coloured falco that is truely awsome and you love to bits, and frequent fuel stops are to be accepted. These are a BIG stomping V twin that makes you smile from ear to ear. Carl don't look for Mpg enjoy it for what it is.......
A brilliant machine that is a little thirsty... :smt003
And if the fuel light does come on, don't ride on with your arse twitching trying to get what the statistics say what you should get :smt002.
Anyway that out of the way are you coming to marches meet, There will be another oasis paying a visit for the weekend :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

I'm happy enough with the bike. it's just a bit shit that for every away lacrosse game over 140miles (which is most of them) i'll have to fill up the tank 3 times. Reserve is suppose to be 4 litres, isn't it? The bike only does about 20ish miles one the light comes on. The problem I had today was that my sat nav sent me 20 miles the wrong way, with no services.

I'll have to see how it fairs on tour.

In the mean time I've decided i'd like a belly pan. Not got the cash yet, but where do you get them from?

p.S what's the Marches meet? Is it a piss up in March (the town, not the month)?

marches meet is in the welsh marches in shropshire - and it does involve alcohol

https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=9392

I will be heading off from norfolk at about 1200 on 25th of may to ride to it

belly pan wise, most here tend to go for the skidmarx offering - and btw they are listed as fairing lowers on the skidmarx website

I'm unlikely to make the meet as I'm going to give this year's BMF show a visit. Been a while since i was went.

Are the black belly pans matte black like the mid-fairings?

Back on the original fuel topic. For a while now i've been looking for a good 1-2l petrol container particularly hand when touring, as petrol stations can be 30miles away, any recommendations?

they are a neutral black - nit quite the same as the matte but close enough

They do seem to vary somewhat.

A few years ago I rode down to Exeter, all motorway, 80+ all the way (with a ickle section, 30 miles or so 90+ (private road officer :smt004 )) I was meeting my mate at Woodhall sevices and was running late.

I started to get twitchy when 150 came & went on the trip, by 160 I was tapping the dash, had the bulb gone :smt017, when 170 came up I was thinking "I did renew the breakdown cover, didn't I?", then at 175 light came on, just as we approached the services, (which I might add I was going to stop at) filled up, result 56.4 per gallon :smt007 .

I have always found the Falco to be good on fuel 50+ most trips, I get around 42-45 when "giving it some" but don't tend to use the upper rev range very often as the bike is so good in the midrange (real riding range).

Never had over 40, or even near 40mpg. 36mpg is the best i've got out of her.

I know that she's very poor in the low rev range below 4k rpm,

Might do a dyno run next week that way i'll get a print out showing fueling, so give me something to work with.

When I had a Falco the best I ever got was 33 and a bit mpg, I think you're not trying hard enough :smt002 :smt003

Haha, worst i've had is 22MPG, that was slow riding around town. Multiple cold starts.

I reckon I can get 40mpg out of it with practice.
