Ghost in my machine is back
... after about 2 months of fault-free riding post big, expensive investigation/repair and went to start: fzzzt! + diag 1. At a complete loss after a few more goes (the dash returning to normal - no clock reset- after switching the ignition on and off), I armed then tripped the alarm. And it started.
Pretty bike. Sweet when it runs. Frikkin' twilight zone once and a while.

Saying that, it probably shows that when the power is cut to one of the circuits, i.e. the ignition circuit - which might be cut by the immobiliser on your alarm. Most probably the alarm, given that was the last thing you did, perhaps an internal relay or something is getting stuck?

.... And now here I am apparently stranded about 5miles from home, after a pig of a Monday with my zapping, non starting Falco. None of my earlier tricks have worked - confirming that I just got lucky with the post zap starts I've managed lately. RAC wants to ferry me home and try to start the thing for me in the morning. These incidences have gotten closer together - there's something seriously (or simply!) rotten here that I just don't have the mechanical aptitude to get to the bottom of. Ive had a great couple of months since the big spend fix but now I'm utterly gutted

Given your subsequent posts this may be a moot point, but my alarm will not disarm using hte key fob thingy when I'm close to transmission towers at the top of a couple of hill runs I frequent. I need to allow the alarm to do it's thing then manually override with the key on/off proceedure.k1w1boy wrote:... could external electrical interference mess up starting? I ask because this fault has only ever occurred in the same supermarket carpark.
...something I didn't mention was the strong buzz and click at the starter relay(?) under the right rear bodywork. Could it be something as simple as this? The former keeper did lots of investigations into this, and Don at Southern Cross contradicted this forum by saying that the oem starter relay on the later falcos was good kit. Will push it to my local garage on the weekend and see what they say. I'm hoping it won't mysteriously start so the fault can actually be observed - the one time I did take it up to the pros in Kilburn, without the fault occurring, they couldn't tell me anything or offer a fix.
Dunno what might have given him that idea - he's in a minority of one with that view.k1w1boy wrote: Don at Southern Cross contradicted this forum by saying that the oem starter relay on the later falcos was good kit.
The later Aprilia ones that you can buy now (the 150A ones) are OK.

Early starter relays are the same as those used on 50cc Aprilia Hair Dryers
Not good kit... starter relay should click when ignition is switched on,this is normal, the circiut energising, buzzin not normal
I had Diag 1 showing, no starting ect, it turned out to be a broken wire on the ECU giving me itermittent fuel supply
Have a look at the ECU and its leads in/out
