Falco single

A few weeks back the Falco started running on one cylinder, when I pulled the injector wire off the front pot it made no change, so I replaced it and all was good again.

Yesterday my mate (best man is over from the UK) called to say it was running rough, so last night the same thing, pulled the injector wire off and no change, so I swapped the injector for the last spare and it didn't work.

Only thing left is the plugs which I pulled out and tested and both (irridiums) weren't sparking from the electrode, but were from the body, so I chucked in some old ones and all's good again.

My issue is, why would changing the injector last time make it work, when it could have been the plugs?

I suppose it could have been running on one plug for a while then the injector went bad, then the other plug went bad, seems unlikely.

I'm running a Gabro chip that runs pretty rich, so is it possible that there has been enough of a carbon build up that is allowing a path for the current to cross from the spark plug electrode to the head without having to jump and make a spark?

I've got a long ride planned this weekend and don't need to be left in the mountains with a one cylinder Falco, so I'm changing the Gabro chip tonight.

Comments/ideas please

The rich running sounds an outsider but logical. How long you been running the Gabro?

I've had this a couple of times and it did seem to be linked to plug fouling and running rich.
Have you checked the state of your air filter?
Obviously clean the plugs too.

Another time I had a loose plug.

I think I would blame the plugs and fouling.
If a plug gets dirty it will try and earth out thru its body rather than the electrode
Rich running will soot the plugs quicktime, so can an un baffled zorst as that affects the mixture ratio big time

Check the engine off switch on the right bar - strip, dry then clean up with wd40

Ask me how I know to try this first!

Also, check the coils....

I would go with your thoughts Dale, seems logical.
Good luck with the ride, hope you enjoy it.

yep andy

remember when we were at Hisnibbs and my bike was only running on one cylinder? and that nice man from the RAC came and took me home??? well - that was the problem!

Griff was the one who suggested that I look there - it would seem that the switch can get a bit temperamental and can manifest as only running on one cylinder

very strange - but true!

Makes no sense.

I can only assume it felt like it was running on one cylinder but was intermittent on both.

i think it is how the switch works..... but i know what you mean
