Oil Level

Most posts I have seen on this subject seem to be worries about the low level in the sight tube when the engine is cold, as I found to be the case on my bike.
However, just done an oil and filter change (swapped to long filter) and carefully measured 3.9 litres into tank. Went for about 100 mile run yesterday and this morning the oil level is about half way up the sight tube. The level was showing max when I switched off after returning home.
Does this sound like over fill or was previous level low?

The oil level must be checked immediately after switching off the engine. Anything else will give a duff reading. And the bike must be upright, not on the side stand.

....and dont worry about the apparently disappearing oil - they all do that. Sometimes mine stays put (apart from shrinkage when she cools) and sometimes the sight glass is nearly empty whens shes cold.
My pet theory is it depends where the scavenge pump rests. If the rotors are aligned some oil runs back into the engine but if the ports are blocked, it doesn't.

Yep, that's how it was.

The key thing is to ignore oil checks until AFTER THE ENGINE HAS BEEN RUNNING and reached full operating temperature...
Cold - forget it

Which is precisely why I've commented that we've recently discussed it and drawn attention to the search function .... to help people understand what's here and how to find it with (relative) ease

I regret pissing anyone off, but I was not asking how to check the oil level. I have read the manual and the thread mentioned and related threads and fully understand the procedure.
I was curious as to why the cold oil level should be so different after an oil and filter change (executed as per manual). Anzacinexile provided a possible answer.
