Some upcoming mods and an airbox question

Righto, my Falco has now been declared a category D after being knocked off the stand by my reversing uncle. Looking at the engineers report the reason for this is based on the cost of panels, and exhaust and using all OEM parts rather than pattern or repairing the damaged panes (2 small scrapes in the fairing and tailpiece). The third party's (my uncle's) insurers are really holding things up by saying they haven't had an admission of liability (they have, I was with him when he called) so I'm stuck with the boring as hell CBF 1000 for a while. So armed with the knowledge of an upcoming payout (bike valued at 2.5K, salvage value of £375 so I get £2125 and my bike back) I have been sourcing and buying parts. So far I have rebuilt my RSVR Ohlins, have a set of Chinese Pazzo copies, ordered a Gabro EPROM on the way and am expecting to receive a set of ProJection Components exhaust hangers/pillion peg eliminators either today or tomorrow. When I actually have the cheque and the bike I will be ordering a set of Ti Oval cans from Fuel (free Kendall mint cake) and be looking at an airbox mod.
Am I better off waiting for a renegade or hooked airbox to come up for sale or modifying one to do the same job? Having looked at what people have been doing it looks like I can get a cheap second airbox, trim down the base and add a pair of sock filters or even build up a mounting area around the stacks for one big filter to seal onto, then add a little K&N style filter for the breather and you're done, right? The Gabro EPROM will have switchable maps for derestricted and open airbox anyhow.
Sorry for asking a question that has been asked many times, it just seems that there are a few different types of airbox mod out there and they all seem to have their own pros and cons. If a decent aftermarket one were to come up in the meantime I would probably grab that and save myself some messing around with cutting and whatnot.

I guess it depends on how handy you are with a dremel....
I think it is a straight forward job to make an airkit - but, maybe not every one would agree....
I think the easiest way is to cut the top of an existing airbox to open it up, but to retain the existing air filter in place.... cheap and cheerful :)
having said that, the induction roar from a renegade/hooked system is rather addictive - griff at aprilia performance has them new and in stock i believe.

Any reason you've not included an Evo airkit in that list?
Although they are no longer made, I might just know where you might find one in good condition.

Main reason I didn't include the evo is that it looks like it wouldn't be as easy to homebrew, not averse to one though.

Yep
I could not fault it performance wise - on a par with my renegade kit - but as I have everything else from renegade it made sense to me to change... Oh, and the induction roar is very nice ;)

Got the falco back yesterday, really the damage is minimal. Scratched fairing and tailpiece and scuffed mirror is the worst of it, he exhaust is a bit scraped but not bad and I've already swapped the side stand for the bubseywoo I had and the levers for the Chinese pazzo copies. I have R&G bar ends coming and the exhausts etc. my Gabro chip will ship next week.
MOT booked for Monday morning, cheeky test ride confirms that everything works as it should. Bring it on.

Control67 I have two mirrors you can have if you want them, they are unmarked originals as I have just put slightly longer ones on mine.
Whatever they cost to post to you would be the price.

I'm just going to get mine sanded and filled, he damage isn't much at all, just a couple of small scrapes on the leading edge, but thanks for the heads up.

OK, we have some progress.
fitted up the Renthal medium compound grips, BikeZ Pazzo copies and R&G bar ends:
ProJection components exhaust hangers holding up the Fuel midi Titanium Ovals, sound great but amazing with the baffles out:
RSVR Ohlins fitted, makes the back end feel so much more composed:
I'm still awaiting delivery of my Gabro EPROM and will be striking up a deal on an EVO airbox too.
