normal operating temperature

I rode in today, my temp seems to be about 76C
Bit worried yesterday in traffic jams got up to about 88C.
What say?
No I ain't checked the coolant yet!

Someone who knows will put you exactly right but I think 120 c is the point you start turning stuff off, mine was running at that yesterday and as long as it falls as soon as you move everything is fine.

They normally run at about 76 - 78C.
The fans don't cut in until 96C - which happens in traffic etc. You've plenty of headroom.
The Workshop manual explains it all .... and if you haven't got one of them, just download it (for free) from Martin Poll's website (Martin is a member here)

Mine was running at the normal 76 - 78C not the 120c I just remeber seeing somwhere that 120 was the danger point.

you know what it's like when you get a new bike.
I was sure my big ends were knocking at lunchtime.
And I used to own a Caponord a few years back, I should
know better.
Maybe I'm a bit of a wally?
(well I did buy a bike with different colour wheels)

When a first had a Futura, I wasn't aware the temperature gauge reads in fahrenheit; began to panic when it started heading towards it's normal reading of 168.

Once up to temp mine always sits at 66C could that be due to it just being generally colder up here in the shetlands. If it rises above that during town riding it soon gets back to 66 once out on the open road.

AF1 sell a thermostat that opens at a lower temp - I wonder whether you have one of those in yours.

It would be deeply ironic if one of our northernmost members had a thermostat designed for a hot climate...

lol, well you never know could be a lower temp one
more than likley mine's just faulty though
out of interest though i bought mine from a fellow in South Hampton which would see warmer temps than it does now, maybe he had one installed.

I'm not knocking it I live in a tent in a field out by the woods near the bridge to the tree struck by lightning that fell near the white brook so not like I do a lot of it me'sen

just for some perspective, mine runs at 76C when arflow is sufficient. It regularly bounces off 96 when the fans come on. This occurs at traffic lights. As long as the fans come on I don't worry. Worst of it is that when it occurs more quickly due to the out side temp being over 30 ( 36 forecast for tomorrow) you already feel like someone has stuck a hairdryer inside your jacket and the bastard fans come on and bathe you in lovely hot air from the waist up. When temps are over 40 it runs 2 to 3 deg C higher cruising along. Once the temp is up due to stops at lights it stays in the 80's unless I get a good run of green lights
