Just realised how big the Falco is.

#1 Post by Tonyunn » Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:21 am

I have never been that brave on a bike, no hooligan riding as such and usually keep to or just over most speed limits.

It was brought home to me yesterday just how I ride when a 600 or so went flying past me on a country road, I tried to keep up with him but after a couple of bends and a couple of "oh shit" moments I became aware of my own mortality.

The Falco is a beast of a bike and in the proper hands could give a lot of bikes a run for their money but I have decided that it will always out perform me and my talent, so I will just keep it as is and try not to let the ego get out of control.

In a few years someone will get a really nice bike.

I daresay if you and the 600 pilot swapped mounts the results would be the same.

Lets be honest, a well ridden SV650 will keep up with most
things on back roads.
I followed a really fast rocket 3 a few weeks ago on B roads on my ZX7R.
I ride briskly but I didn't try to get past him. Quite cool to see
a bike like that ridden well.

The little men in white boots say it doesn't have the ground clearance.
But on a B road who would use a sports bike's lean angle? not me.
nor them either I bet.

A track day might help. when i first went to mallory park i had chicken strips on my tyres, but by the end of the session the back ones had gone.
They have re apeared on the back but that is probably due to the thought of meeting something coming the other way. The falco is a big heavy bike but a track day would definatly inspire confidence, and you will all be going in one direction :smt003

And cue the man with White boots lol

Most if not all bikes outride me so I hear you on that one :smt016
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Cheers for that, makes sense if you think about it, you break the bank keeping the things on the road its no use chucking down in front of a Focus coming the other way.

And how much fuggin mud is on the roads at this time of year? I did have one real moment yesterday, looked like a tractor had dumped a load right on my line round one really nice bend.

More or less gave up at that point, went home

november is always a rotten greasy month.
I always seem to buy my bikes in november!

That said I reckon the SL is a great machine on crappy roads.
It feels like it wants to stay rubber down, bubble up.
I only just got mine but it don't scare me like some have.

Don't even try to take on an Impreza this time of year!

Don't get me wrong I love the thing, the ability to get from 80 to 105 in a couple of car lengths is both good and bad.

It's about to be put away for the duration and riding in November is somethiong i wouldn't usually do, the good weather is to blame.

Our bikes sound similar, 22000 miles 2002 age £2000
No incidences after buying.

This is mine by the way.

I find the falco a little top heavy, which leads to being a bit slow in the corners, but thats fine by me, it suits my riding style.

on a side not, i ride all year round. Its scary riding such a big bike on ice and snow, trust me....

how many rings do you have showing ?

since i moved the bars over the triple crown, the steering is quicker - i had it set to 1 ring showing before - three - to enable the bar move, is just right for me. I think Keef - Hisnibbs - has 4 or more showing....

and tell me about snow - i had to use the bike last winter during the terrible cold snap....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I think yours is a bit nicer tony,
I int got the seat hump or the bellypan

:smt009

Oh well, I do like the blue though.

Plus I got one gold wheel!
Never look at a bike you lust after without a rational friend!
Still love it though.

Any bike in ice or snow is scary!

I don't want to worry you, but you ought to see who is asking this question ....... and then be very afraid ...... (cues the music from the blue oyster bar)
