datatool alarm had it :(

#1 Post by bulgarianfalco » Sat Nov 19, 2011 8:28 pm

bought my falco with a Datatool system 3 fitted, now it won't arm/disarm, whole range of symptoms, the worst of which is that the bike is immobilised.........which means going in. Wrote to datatool, but they just advised removal so I'm going to have to have a go - anyone got any pointers for someone fairly clueless and armed only with a multimeter? Which I don't really know how to use?

Datatool have a very varied reputation on here, some quite satisfied but many have probs.
I know at least one person has removed his so hopefully you might get some help.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Bluddy hate alarms with a vengeance.

I removed mine by simply tracing each wire to where it joined the loom and by referencing it to the wiring diagram figured out what that wire did.

Isn't as scary as it sounds when you consider, one wire power, one wire earth, one wire indicators so the remaining 2 is where it breaks into the ignition circuit. you might be lucky and whoever fitted it might have used the factory fitted socket.

BEFORE you cut any wires, mark each side of the cut with a label with a number so if it all goes tits up, you know which wire joined up to the other half (although with a busted alarm, that wont get you anywhere)

As he said

I think taking time is the key

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

My Meta alarm has been great (bought 2nd hand from ebay and fitted it myself)
I've heard so many horror stories from those with datatools that I'd never let one near a bike of mine ...
Maybe the perception exaggerates the truth but I'm not for taking the chance.
Hope you get things sorted.

Extremely happy with mine

Weelll

Went through 3 on the Falco (different makes) wifey went through 2 (Meta's) the last in the Mont Blanc Tunnel, my work Fazer chewed hers and her predecessor shat hers (Datatool)

........so - you can see why I hate them with a vengeance. No way those turds from the Devils bottom are going anywhere near my bikes thank you

Don't worry - I'm not trying to persuade anyone to fit one who doesn't want one

I had issues with my System3 too (3rd bike i've had with it on and first i've had issues with tho) so its now hotwired. £300 category 1 system and I had it bypassed and bike running in 5 minutes. I do miss the peace of mind of the alarm siren tho.

I know what you mean. Having junked all my alarms I invested in a Xena alarmed disc lock for peace of mind in rough places. Gawd only knows how something so small can make so much noise

yep, this is my first bike with an alarm - unkind souls might say it's my first bike that needs one - anyway it'll be my last........the response from Datatool was prompt but no help at all really, didn't seem interested :(

...Even i managed that...hated the alarm and it drained the battery. Traced each wire back, took about 15 mins
