Quick question to the learned:

Apart from sourcing a used shock from the right year Mille etc, is there a currently available direct replacement shock from Ohlins or WP that will fit the Falco?

The Ohlins AP941 46PRC appears to have been discontinued?

Pretty basic unit in respect of adjustment but they make good gear from what I know.

Have to do something about that colour though.

looking at the prices, you can see why many of us go for obtaining a mille item and refurbing it.....

I got the Nitron "track" version (mid-range) and have been extremely happy with it, can't say I've done much with it as it was set-up when I got it (and a check with Griff didn't show any problems with setup)

Didn't pay that much though! Got mine (IIRC) for about £460, try searching some of the dealers (Moore Speed was mine), they order at a discount but it arrives straight from the factory

Yep, looking around, a new shock can cost more than third of what the bike cost me

Being a cheap Yorkshireman by birth I'm always keen on the £3-75 option.

If you have a line on a used Ohlins replacement I'm all ears.

Maybe a hagon shock for the early mille will fit? got one on my KR1S track bike and its fabulous, and under £300.

i note the hagon shock fits 1998 to 2004 - and bearing in mind our knowledge of the different linkages this gives me some doubts.... how can one shock replace three different ones with regard to linkages?

also, at 300 quid - even with a 2 year warrenty, i am not that convinced of the value - a personal view i hasten to point out

They do one for the Falco - so no point in looking at the Mille ones with associated linkage complications.
I have no experience of Hagon but I recall the previous discussions have suggested them to be a bit more down the budget end and for the same sort of cash you can get a second hand Ohlins and have it serviced.

Oh i agree with the second hand Ohlins point D.

but some people do prefer the peace of mind of brand new, and whilst i agree they don't have the pose value of Ohlins i found it worked very well for me on the track.

Alad, no having looked or his website site i concur with you, how does 1 shock fit multiple linkages.

Yes - I'm not arguing - as I said, I've no experience of the Hagon shocks so cannot objectively compare.

D, i know, as you say everything is objective.

Comments on AF1 Futura forum re Hagon shock were on the lines of - ok, but not a significant improvement. But, IIRC, the Futura Sachs shock isn't quite as dismal as the Falco one is said to be.

One thing I would say about a secondhand Ohlins - they can be refurbished to indistinguishable from new for not a lot of money. So the fact that new ones aren't available shouldn't really be a concern. I've seen inside a number of Ohlins shocks and the component quality is absolutely top-notch. They are also fully rebuildable and spares should never be a problem.

Given the choice between spending £250 on a secondhand Ohlins and the same amount on a new Hagon, I wouldn't hesitate. Ohlins every time...
