Passed the MOT but then........

So it passed the annual MOT with a borderline front tyre, an airlock in the back brake and the “not for road use” Blue Flame exhausts. :smt001 I was pleased but on the way home some 3 miles from home the top hose to the oil cooler came off and spewed oil all over the bike. I looked in my mirror just before making an overtake to be greeted by huge clouds of smoke pouring out the back of the bike. :smt009 :smt009 I pulled over immediately and she dumped the remaining oil all over the road. I knew it couldn’t be bad cos it hadn’t gone pop and sounded fine. I pushed it a couple of miles into my home town and a local dude came out of his house to help me. He gave me a jubilee clip for the hose and a gallon of oil and a big bucket of hot soapy water to wash the oil of the back tyre. I got it home ok and he followed me on his ZZR600 just to make sure it was ok. Top bloke. :smt006 However I didn’t have time to clean it all up and when I went out yesterday to clean it all up there was huge puddles of oil all over the garage floor where it had been running off. Good job I put a couple of sheets of hardboard under it to catch it all. What a mess.
No damage done, that’s the main thing, but a couple of nights of degreasing and washing should put things right. So over all I’m happy but I’ve never seen such a mess. :smt018

Damn, just glad you spotted it before going for the overtake - that could have been even messier! :smt009

:smt107 'kin 'ell, could've been a lot worse.

Glad it all ended well.

Could have been very nasty - fortunately was just a PITA on this occasion!

Glad to hear you pulled over off of the racing line as soon as it happened - otherwise we'd have all been after you waving our Kill the Spills placards !

:smt002 :smt003

Now had it happened a little earlier, the look on the MOT tester's face could have been quite a picture - not so sure he'd have treated this in the same way as the other "issues".

Anyway, glad it was allright in the end.

Wow! That was lucky. It could have ended tragically for you and a bike. Now you'll have another story to tell your grandchildren. :smt002

I had similar a few weeks ago when the oil hose down near the gear shift split and spewed oil all over the back tyre. It's bloody scary looking in your mirrors and seeing all that white smoke. Luckily I was only a few hundred yards away from home when it went so I managed to limp home, riding in the gutter.

That short piece of hose costs £17 from Aprilia!!!

I thought that hose should have been replaced at the first service, mine was.
