Scottoiler... and ventura pack

#1 Post by rick » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:15 am

Hi guys

Hope you're all well the other side of the world!

Now I have decided its time to get me a scottoiler... naturally I'll be buying a second hand one from the UK, getting it shipped to my folks and then onward to NZ... but I was wondering about where I can take a vacuum feed from.

The manual (looked at the online pdf) stated to remove the bung from the spigot on the side of the throttle body... but I recall a previous chat on here that I've had when chatting about balancing throttle bodies and I have the older TBs without said spigot... what the next best option?

My second thing is the ventura pack system... they're very popular over here and I can see why. I am still struggling to find a decent soft luggage solution and I hate the givi racks. Anyone had one? If so can someone send me some pics on how they attach?

Keep cool now,
Rick

..... I have a couple of spare sets of throttle bodies - one of the old style (no good to you) and one of the newer style (just what you need).

I'd be quite happy to sell the one that suits your need (in fact, I'd be glad to get rid of both sets).

easiest solution - look at the early mille install instructions for the scottoiler - i think you will find that explains it... the earlier faster falcos appear to have had the mille throttle bodies etc....

re soft luggage - I use a wolfman tailpack - brilliant if you do not carry a passenger.... http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/Tail/beta_bags11.html - i use one of the large ones and rate it highly

(If you do - then I would still recommend the original aprilia racks and bags....)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Falcos got whatever TBs the Milles were getting at the time they were built. Only the very first ones were unlucky enough to suffer the lack of vacuum take-off.
Both Mille and Falco got the better ones - and I think that was not long after the Falco was introduced.

.... and there is no evidence whatsoever that the earlier ones were any faster.
What we do know is the earlier ones had worse clutches and sidestand switches that were prone to break ......

definitely have to agree with the sidestand being as useless as a chocolate fire guard.

Hi Rick,

I have both the Ventura rack and the Scott Oiler taking a vacume feed on an early (2001) and FAST Falco. So do you need a pictures of where it takes a vacume feed and the rack mounts? I moded my rack mount because I couldn't be doing with 1/2 a LB of unstressed mild steel taking up space beneath my rear hump.

The rack and bag combo is pretty good. By the way I'm sorry we never got together in Leicester while you were here and I hope you are enjoying oz.

Yep. My brother in law is one. Been on a few boat trips with him and his compatriates.

Mind you this was not deliberate, just not paying attention again. :smt009
