Right chaps - had my first real problem today after 6 years of blemmish free riding on the Falco. I first noticed it two weeks ago riding back from the meet at Norfolk I was riding in slow traffic and opened the throttle fairly quickly to pop an overtake. there was a slight hesitation and stammer, nothing much but i noticed it, then she pulled cleanly again. I did it a couple of times that afternoon.

Went out today and after about 100 miles it happened again. It got steadily worse, every time I grabbed a handful of throttle there was a hesitation. Very much like when you're running out of petrol. I decided to nurse it home but on the way it stalled twice as I backed off the throttle then opened up again. Pulled to a halt turned off then on and she fired up fine. The rest of the way home I experimented and everytime I accelerated hard she would hestitate then pull a little then hestitate. Almost like fuel starvation.

I had something similar with my last GSXR - the fuel filter was clogged and the float bowls where emptying faster than the fuel was getting in. It felt the same today.

Any ideas please.

Try some injector cleaner.... And having had something worse I would also strip , clean and reassemble the engine off/on switch....

Final thing, and very much from left field, check the drain hoses from the bottom of the tank - whip them off and using a pipe cleaner make sure they are not blocking off inside the tank ( I think, repeat think, one may well be a tank breather...)

Definatly sounds like a fuel problem to me, but not sure if there is an in line filter within the pipework itself like a cone filter . I dont have manual for the falco but worth checking up on

Thanks Pete - that's where I'll start. Just been browsing through the manual too. Haven't got time tonight to start checking those things but will do over the weekend and let you know. Ta.

Have you filled up since Norfolk? ... not got iffy fuel in it?

Had exactly the same problem. I just changed the plugs and its been fine ever since

Yes I wondered about that Sam but filled up today too.

I'll try the plugs as well Tommy. Although it was dealer serviced in Feb - I need to check to see if they charged me for plugs

Not like I really know but the bandit used to have a drain pipe so you removed the stopper let a small amount of liquid out and it started and ran fine again

I just had a similar thing after filling up in telco Sheffield after about 70 miles hasn't done it 100 miles later so I am hoping it was just some crap fuel or hunk but I am going to do as pete suggested and get some injector cleaner. That said any recommended as some don't like the older style injectors I tried it in an old 2.5 pl and it clogged them ... Typical luck for me lol

It might be worth making sure the injectors / inlets / combustion chamber / exhaust path are all clean.

I've stumbled upon some amazing stuff that seems to do a fantastic job.
My Mazda diesel was smoking a lot when I floored it and I thought I'd better sort it out before the MOT. I researched what works and what doesn't and this stuff called BG 244 seemed to be very highly recommended (more so than anything else) - so I tried it. It has done an unbelievable job - smoke has gone, car is much more responsive and much smoother - excellent.
It wasn't cheap but it was worth every penny.
Oh yes, the 9yr old car sailed through the MOT yesterday.



I'm going to treat the bike to the same .... well the sister product for petrol engines BG 44K. I ordered a can of that today.

Disable the EGR system. Not needed on bikes or diesel cars in this country. It's an emissions control system that recirculates some of the exhaust gases (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) which prevents the production of some of the nasty stuff. It makes the engine run like shite and lowers fuel economy.. Andy, you'll probably find that if you take the intake manifold off it'll be full of black gunk as will the EGR valve itself.

Didn't think the Falco had an EGR system.

.... and the Mazda is nicely sorted now that the fueling/combustion system has had a good clean up.

I don't think it has.. Not looked.. Was more on about yer car.. Apologies to hi-jack the thread.. my bad

Disable or remove the EGR on your car or it'll gum up again. It's not needed and you'll see a nice improvement in power and fuel consumption.
