'New' long oil filter - best supplier?

At my Falco's first service the dealer updated the old short filter/housing for the new, longer filter/housing. At the time this seemed like a good move. Having looked around now, it seems that the older short filters are still readily available at a sensible price, while the new 'improved' longer ones sell for a premium.

Does anyone know of a source of the new longer oil filter at a sensible price? Standard Aprilia price for part no AP0956745 is over £9, which seems a bit of a rip to me. If that's the going rate, then I'll pay it, but if anyone knows of a cheaper alternative then please tell me.

Also, do I need to renew the O ring at the same time as the filter? And is this included in the inflated price? And do we have any alternate suppliers for either/both?

If the dealer gave you back the original housing, use that....

Halfords carry the original filter on the shelf - about six quid

Have you tried the chaps at Opie Oils? They came out tops for my car service items. Just specify which filter you're after. :smt001

No they don't do them.
Bought my oil from them but am still looking for a filter - same as mango.
Griff seems as cheap as anywhere as far as I can tell .... though still looking

does anyone have one spare? Asking because there is a filter company next door to my works.. Could pop my head in and ask, but would need a sample to show them. :smt001

Unfortunately I didn't get the original housing back, so I'm stuck with the new 'improved' design.

I'll give Griff a call.

I would be very tempted to ask the stealer for the smaller cover back

Failing that, I would get a replacement from a breaker or griff - I think it makes sense to have both just in case

Oh - I would inspect the o ring and replace if needed - so far mine has always been ok, though I did get a nice box of assorted new o rings from QD for a couple of quid as a just in case measure :)
