Hi Folks,

Quick question for you Falco Guru's.

Would an Ohlins steering damper from a 2008 RSVR fit the Falco? I know the earlier ones do but not sure about later ones.

Steering Damper? ...,,You don't need one just change your underpants after each ride ..

Sorry - not sure - never fitted a steering damper.

I guess it just depends on whether the mounting point is the same on the later yokes. I expect it is but don't know for certain.

Cheers for the replies Guys. The reason for fitting one is that I experienced a front end weave that very nearly turned into a full blown tankslapper when I hit 120 coming back from Spa last year. Admitedly, I was fully laden with Ventura kit but I can only carry so many spare cacks plus I want to see what it will max out at going to Spa at the end of the month.

Most likely be caused by an under damped rear shock, add a couple of click of damping and a couple of mm rear prelaod when loaded up for a long trip.

Yes Nooj, you are right.

I think it was mainly down to the original sachs shock. The rear tyre was very rough after a bit of spirited cornering on the way there. I have just fitted an Ohlins shock from an early RSV and although I have only ridden a few miles since fitting it, the transformation is quite amazing. This might well cure it, but I was considering a 'belt and braces' approach.

I have an early ohlins fitted to mine but I do have the bars over the triple crown...

I believe the mount g point is different on the later milles - wider forks etc?

No they aren't.
The fork spacing is the same (though there is a 1.5mm difference in offset (between steering stem and forks)

I expect you are thinking of the need to fit spacers for the disks when fitting wheels from an old shape Mille to an RSVR. That is because of the mounting of the radial callipers - not any difference in the gap between the forks.

having had a day off i set down to research this and found that there is a difference between the two steering dampers

the original ohlins for the early milles has a stroke length of 133, while the later ohlins has a stroke length of 175 - but both have the same mininum length to be fitted

iirc there was a noticeable difference in the steering lock between the early and later milles - hence the probable difference?

with that in mind, i would suggest that it may well fit - but may not work with out a bit of adjustment - ie, i would start very soft and dial it in gently..... just in case


the mounting points do look similar, though the later models were fitted with a slightly different bushing system
