2001 model, 20K miles, Silver: needed recovered home a couple of weeks ago after clutch lost all pressure and came back to bar. After reading this wise forum I have replaced the clutch slave seal. Was a pain to bleed the system, but now have good pressure at the lever. Still having problems.....when engage first gear bike lurches forward and stalls.
I took off and rechecked slave cylinder and no fluid leaks. What's going on or what have I done wrong?

With engine off I can move the actuator rod about 5 mm to and fro by hand , but can't move it at all when engine running. Does that sound right?

try tying up the lever over night then another bleed , afrter this idid get air bubbles , i did this 3 times and works fine now ,

I used 3 plasticuffs to hold the piston into the slave cylinder and had the wife pump the clutch lever and top up the fluid while I bled the slave at different angles. Amazing how much air came out initially, then no air, and then a couple of bubbles here and there. Flushed nearly half a bottle of fluid through, but it did the trick

A master cylinder banjo bolt with a bleed nipple is a big help. I can't really remember how difficult it was to bleed without one of them but certainly since I've had one (and more recently with a radial master cylinder that has a bleed nipple) it's been easy.

Cheers for the tips - I'll have another go at bleeding the bleeder before calling a real mechanic to take over from my blunderings.

there is a knack to doing the clutch - that link highlights it perfectly - and i prefer to reverse bleed - always

You using new IE? ive had probs with the new IE..which is why i uninstalled it!

Aprilia Technical forum on here.. about 8th sticky down.. 'bleeding the hydraulics'

Have checked and re-checked (and used a litre of Dot 4) - convinced no air in system but symptoms persist.
Have arranged loan of van to get it to local mechanic.....
Never mind, it's to be raining next week. Have I missed summer??????

I wasted a hellava lot of fluid without success until I decided to RTFM.

Multiple quick pulls to the bars followed by cracking the bleed nipple with the lever squeezed. Close nipple and SLOWLY release the lever and repeat. Result, after three cycles a huge amount of very small bubbles (almost foam) was ejected and kept being ejected for four or five cycles.

Worked for me including the infamous back brake

just had an oberon cylinder fitted to replace my totally knackered one
