I've been doing a little bit of playing around to clarify what symptoms are created when various of the interlocks that prevent starting are set/unset.

I remembered that "received wisdom" is that when the Fall Sensor (as Aprilia calls it) - or Tilt/Tip-over Sensor as it's often known - is overturned, you will get a "NO START" message on the dash.

..... well I've tipped the sensor over, turned on the ignition and the bike has not started when I've pressed the button.
..... I've had the bike running, tipped the switch and it's stopped running.
..... I've then pressed the starter button and it won't start.
..... following that I've turned off the ignition, turned it on again and the bike won't start.

However, in all of this, the infamous "No Start" message has failed to make an appearance.

..... so undaunted I've had a bit of a search of the Owners' Manual and the Workshop Manual and I can't find any mention of it (though there are a lot of words in there and I may have missed it)

So ..... 2 Questions for you:

Q1. Who has ever actually seen this "No START" on the dash?

Q2. How on earth can I make it appear on my bike (in a guaranteed, repeatable manner)?

Ive seen it at the racetrack on a RiOT RSVR, but cant remember what caused it.

I think, from memory, If you bin the bike at about 120mph coming off Paddock Hill Bend at Brands, I think that will pretty much guarantee it coming up, but only if you manage to avoid smashing the dash.

*edit* Im sure it was something to do with the tip over sensor. I know there was faffing about with the tip over afterwards but at that point I think I was up to my elbows in rebuilding fairings, seat hump and mounts.

Have a try with a combination of side stand cut out and tip over sensor.

I've got some bubble wrap that I can use to protect the dash.

Now that's a thought - I only tried it with the sidestand down - I'll give it a go with the sidestand up - perhaps a more realistic situation if the bike has just been binned.

Can tell you've got some time off mate.. Avoiding house chores are we?

Not really .... was late evening just as I was putting the bike away and had earlier received a pm about a bike that wouldn't start ... so thought I'd better do a bit of research.

I've had it come up when the the bike was running then tipped over. The NO START comes up on the display and the engine turns over but will not start (fuel cut-off I'm guessing).

When you turn the ignition off and then back on again it resets as long as the sensor is upright.

Mine did it when i first bought it and i asked on here about the issue, it had worked it's way loose off one of the holding points, so was tilted slightly, after i'd pushed the bike onto another part of the drive it started but was still not correctly back in the corect position, it was only after the event i asked and was told so had a look and clicked it back into place but it did work before this for a run down to Bucks and back...if that makes sense?

I think I had it come up years ago when I had a little fall down and the bike wouldn't fire up , so I held the start button in for a bit and it flashed up after a bit of cranking. must have been over 10s, wouldn't catch me doing that again!

Whilst sorting my recent problems, having fitted the tipover switch back upside down without knowing it actually was the tipover switch, (thought it was somewhere else!), I got the chance to see this message for the first time.
It was not consistent and certainly did not come on straight away every time, in fact it only dispayed about 50% of the time and only if you kept churning the starter over.
If, like most of us would, I stopped turning it over when the battery was a bit down and starting to struggle, it may not come on at all. It only seemed to be when you turned it over for some time, then it eventually came on and stayed on.

This happened to me on Sunday. It starts when upright but not on the stand.

I was searching for the resistance required to bypass the switch if anybody knows t.

IIRC the bike will run with the wiring connector dis connected but this may flash up a code on the dash
I had so many problems with the tip switch I isolated the sliding connector from the contact points by fixing it in situ using thin strips of insulting tape,
No more problems

Hi all,

When I had my electrical problems I went to the sacred place called "Pierre's Falco Land!" We checked the tip over sensor and determined that it has to be connected, as there is resistance in the connection. Simply removing it and covering said connector in tape doesn't wash. The resistance in line works with the rest of the starter circuit, side stand, clutch, starter relay and diod

If fitted upside down, my "NO start" came up on the dash and some weird noises too boot!

Excellent stuff, do you know the resistance?
