Found some interesting things!

Lots and lots of thick oily shite round the front sprocket and swing arm pivot. Usual stuff, I see it all the time with bikes that come into me though this was a particularly heavy build up, but clearing it out led to a couple of interesting discoveries.

The build up of thick black clag meant nothing in this area had any definite shape, it was all just a homologous black sticky region, so I was surprised to find this once I'd cleared the gack out:

It's an allen key! A bonus tool for the garage tool box


I also made this discovery, not so good. Glad I found it in time!



Is this the Bubsywoo MkII issue people are finding or do you reckon it's because there's a nut missing from the back of the pivot bolt? No wonder the stand had so much play in it when it was down!! Also there are no wires coming out of the side stand switch, minor detail.

All easily rectifiable stuff, just a bit surprising

It looks like the allen key was serving a purpose? Nobody could reassemble and not notice it in place??

That's what I thought when I first saw it. No idea how someone could have left it there and not noticed it, it must have been clean when it was put there, there's no way I can think of that it would have fallen in there. Can't think of any reason for it to be there though.

The stand's fixable, I'll wind it up in my vice and find a nut for it.

Erm, I'd say bin that stand. The metal in that part will be severely weakened. It may work for a time, but soon enough it'll crack and snap. Looks like the wrong grade of steel has been used in the first place for that to happen.

Strange where things turn up. I'm certain we've got a poltergeist in the workshop. One minute all the bits are there, in the parts tray, where ye left um.. Then it comes to putting everything back on. I've found stuff on the other side of the workshop before now.. Not so unusual when moving stuff around, but more so when there no reason for it to be there.. The strangest one was a tank mounting rubber for a Bandit 600 which was found in the tool/bits tray on the back of a GS850..

I think it had been done like that intentionally! After squishing it back together I discovered the welds on that part of the stand were interfering with the welds on the stand bracket, so it wouldn't go up or down properly. So I guess whoever fitted it, rather than file down the welds, just wound the pivot bolt out until the stand moved freely again

Will, if you look in the for sale section you'll see that I'm trying to buy your stand off you to replace this one

I reckon the allen key was left in place to keep the sidestand wires in place, looks like the retaining clip is there though
