Weeping calliper bleed nipples?

Hi all

I took my callipers off over the winter break for a rebuild (new seals, pads, fluid etc) and fitted them back on the bike last Friday. This morning I noticed a small amount of brake fluid was weeping from the bleed nipple on each of the callipers.

Now I’m pretty sure I tightened the nipples up tightly, anyone got any idea why this would happen? Do I need new nipples :smt005

Could be leaking due to a bit of corrosion, or if a little bit of dirt has got into the threads in the calipers.

A pair of stainless ones are only about £11, remind me what size the threads are and I'll let you know exactly how much the Pro-Bolt ones are (inc. 5% discount). Worth doing as they're a right PITA when they get corroded in and sheer off rather than undo!

I did notice a bit of corrosion on the bolt head so you might be right.

I'll take a pair of the stainless bolts off you if the Pro-bolt ones are too pricey, not sure on the thread size as I'm at work and can't check.

£10.11 inc. postage - 5% discount for a pair of Stainless ones (they will be Pro_Bolt, I'm a retailer for them).

Or if you're feeling flash... £19.48 for a pair of natural colour titanium ones :smt004

8.0mm x 1.25mm might be interested in some titanium gold, depending on price :smt002 I have RSV 2003 calipers by the way.... Cheers Nooj

£20.45 for gold (or blue or purple) Titanium ones.

Titanium advantage; lighter, corrosion resistant, comes in plain or three colours if you want coloured ones. 'Bout it really.

Oh and if you replace the hero blobs on your footpegs with Ti bolts, they spark nicely when you grind them on the deck on trackdays...


(missing a trick there nooj, with the power rangers? niche in the market...)

Are you seriously suggesting that the weight saving on a bleed nipple really has any impact .....

.... and I'd hope the stainless ones were in a grade that provided good corrosion resistance anyway .... being as that would be the main reason for having a stainless one .....

.... so I guess it's all down to colour ..... that will be covered by the rubber boot that goes over them .....

Probably in the market for a pair of stainless ones - do you have a nice pair of stainless banjo bolts too? (4-pad callipers - though I guess the banjo bolts will be the same as for the 2-pad callipers)

Stainless is A4, so will be plenty good enough. I do like the 'my nipples are titanium' tag line for a number plate :smt003

Stainless banjos aren't a problem. Single? Double? What size and how many? Want one for the clutch slave with a nipple built in?

LOL - just want the banjo bolts for the front callipers (already have one with a bleed nipple for the clutch slave and already have a double for the brake master).

So - how much for a pair of banjo bolts and a pair of bleed nipples in stainless .... (hopefully delivered to the midlands by the weekend :smt002)
