Just been talking to my local motorcycle tyre shop and they have steered me towards a set of Mitchlin Pilot Road 2. Apparently Mitchlin's latest tyre, which is a sports touring tyre but with 2ct technology ( whatever that means).

He believes they are more sporty than Bridgestone 020 and Pirelli Diablo stradas, and with around 8000miles life on rear. Maybe not as sporty as Pirelli Diablo Corsa's or Pilot Sport 2ct, but loads more wear.

All their tyres seem to be between 230-240 quid the pair incl fitting and balancing, so the price isn't a deciding factor. (I know, I know, Mitchlin pilot sports for 130 quid would be nice if I had someone to fit them )

Apparently Mitchlin are telling them to advise customers on gsxr, R1's etc to use 2ct if they do trackdays or the Pilot Road 2 if they don't.

2CT is simply dual compound tyre. The edges are softer than the centre section. Nowt new. Bridgestone have been doing the same with 010 / 020 I believe for a while now. Michelin are just making a bigger deal of it.

mitchelin might be makeing a bigger deal of it but grip and wear are excellent far better than the bridgstones i had before,i've a mate with a k6 and he loves them,i will get 8000 mls + on the rear, i can't fault them but every body rides different.

Our National tyre centre fits tyres to loose wheels at a fiver a go including balancing.(£10 each if you take the bike down) Most motorcycle tyre dealers will fit your tyres for you at minimal cost.

I'd buy the Michelins from Busters and get someone local to fit them every time, you'd still be saving nearly £100

Avon also have a new Azaro. It's calles the Azaro Storm.
Supposed to be the new Azaro ST with better grip and miles. I got about 6000 from a rear on my Firestorm with the old Azaro ST

Oh and if you're insured with ebikeinsurance you get £20 of a set of Michelins at National Tyres (plus my renewal just came in £15 cheaper then last year , sorry wrong thread i know)

8000 miles from a good sports rear tyre? That has got to be worth checking out.

I really rate the Conti's , I'm on my third set of them now, but the rear only gives about 4K, the front is pushing things a bit to make the 8k so it cab be changed with the second rear.

I have reservations about Micheleans though. Once apon a time they had a great reputation for grip but did not give any warning when they let go. I like to lean until I feel the tyre moving and I'm geting used to moving those Conti's.

Unless your doing back to back tests it is going to be hard to make mileage comparisons. Tyre wear is probably proportional to velocity squared, or something so if your mantra is 'a ton a day keeps old age at bay' you may not see 8k out of a rear any way.

You sure it's a falco you got and not a GS500 or summat?

Jeeez I'm lucky to get 3500 out of an 014.

Maybe I just like the fun handle a bit more than most

miss print i've done 5000 mls on the rear and will get 6000+ no problem.

I simply don't believe any red blooded falco rider will get 8000k legal miles from a rear tyre unless he pushes it but I could be wrong

Depends how you choose to circle the earth. Around the equator, about 321.3 laps but if you lap across the poles, approx 321.8 laps (so not much in it). Mind you, I don't know any roads that take these direct routes.

I think I'd want to break the journey at some point .......
