Just finished bolting on and testing my modified standard sidestand. I cut off the end plate, filed 2mm off the leg and re-welded the plate back on rotated through 180 degrees. It was tacked on first, offered up then "adjusted" with a hammer so that the plate sat flat on the floor. The end plate now looks as if it should have been that way round from the factory. Bike sits at a better angle and is more supported by the stand. The stand is made from quite thick walled tubing - more than strong enough in my opinion. I know there is lots on here about alternative stands, but this is perhaps another solution ???? Will give more feedback when I test it out in the real world!

Good effort, surprising the difference a couple of mil can make.

I'm not so confident as you about the robustness of the stand tube, I had mine bent by a gorilla strapping it down on the ferry to Ireland.

I've got the US stand on mine now and it's a lot more substantial and has the foot the correct way round (what were they thinking?)

Good job with the modding but I always believed the main issue with the stand was that it was too far under the bike so the bike fell over it.
In which case your mod might not be enough.

Yes I agree Kiwi - this is where the Gixer stand scores too

Certainly looks a better angle - similar to my Triumph Tiger. My mod was very quick and easy to do. Has improved it - as has putting more than 20 psi in the tyres!

My experience exactly, thats why I bit the bullet (plus the gorillas on the ferry BENT my standard bracket) and got meself a Yankee stand

Looks good.....I'm looking at replacing the sidestand on my winter bargain and have read the posts about the AF1/Firestorm/Gixer/Bubseywoo alternatives.

I've checked the AF1 site and can see the whole assembly on there for about $160 or there abouts, but Fleabay has a few VTR stands from breakers which seem a cheaper and quicker option.

Anyone know how much the stand only costs if you order one from Americky ? And is the VTR one a true straight replacement, I'm not keen on the work needed for the Gixer one as I have the mechanical ability of a newt and need to keep this as simple as possible.

One things for sure, the current stand has to go as I have a ferry trip coming up in May and don't want to get down to the vehicle deck and see the Italian mistress lying on her side due a big wave rocking the boat.

you just change the leg from the vtr one - and adjust the kick down bar with a hammer to fit
