Well after managing to knock my battery charger off the shelf in the garage straight into a bucket of water I'm in the market for a new charger. Cheapest I've seen is £85 delivered on ebay.

Can anyone beat that? Off to NEC at the end of the month so may wait until then.

does it have to be a brand new one? I've got an Optimate 1, 2 and 3.. they're all just as good as each other. £85 is a lot of money for what is especially a batter charger.

I've used the Accumate charger for both the Falco and the VFR, and I would swear by them; they're excellent, and (I believe) functionally identical to the Optimate. David Silver spares have them on sale here for £39.00:

If memory serves, the Accumate caters for both 6 & 12 V batteries whereas the Optimate only caters for 12V items.

Apparently Honda do Optimate too. 08M51 EWA 801UK is the part number to try at a dealership..

I have had an Optimate 3SP(?) which I bought second hand 4 years ago and it has been excellent. However, when I added a second bike to the garage I splashed out on a C-Tek Zafir 90 from Costco for £19 inc VAT. It seems to do the job just as well, and they both use the Tamiya connectors so are easily interchangeable.

Forgot to mention I also need it to cope with a car battery.

The Ctek Zafir 90 has 3 settings, motorcycle, car and a special setting for extremely cold weather. I think it has been superseded by teh Zafir 100. http://www.ctek.com/EN-GB/zafir/zafir100.aspx
