I just took my Falco into Griff's dyno mate, Neil, for him to do some runs on the bike. I want 1 @ bog standard, 2 @ bog standard + Akra cans and 3 @ Akra cans and larger-bore pipework back from the headers. What makes item 3 more interesting is that the new pipes are NOT balanced/connected.

One of the reasons I want a dyno run now is so I can see if the absence of a link/balance pipe is hurting the power output. If so, Mark (exhaust chappie) can add that to the existing pipes.

The reason I'm asking about PC3's is because Neil said that without one, you don't really get to see what a given setup is capable of (which makes sense to me). If he could have borrowed one from Griff he would have done so, but Griff is fresh out of PC3s.

So - does anybody have a PC3 they are willing to sell, or to loan for a short period (couple of weeks at most)? It's not the end of the world if I can't get my hands on one, but it would make the dyno time I'm shelling out for a fair bit more meaningful, results-wise.

Hi Ian, that would be great - and muchly appreciated. To be honest I doubt if one will come up at a price I'm prepared to pay in the immediate future. I've had a look on eBay and the only ones available are new at £265 a pop.

I'll give it until Sunday night to see if one does come up, and if it hasn't I'd be very grateful if I could take up your kind offer.

Neil seems a really nice bloke, no surprises as he and Griff seem good buddies. And he also has a really trick battery reviver - just as well as the battery on my VW van chose today to give up the ghost.

No warning at all... I pulled up at Neil's, switched the van off, unloaded the bike and had a natter with him. Went back to the van and not a peep - zilch, nada, rien... But Neil brought out his magic box of tricks and it fired up straight away. I made damn sure I didn't stop or stall anywhere on the way home...

It's parked outside now, dead as a dodo. So that'll be best part of £100 for a new battery on Monday, then...

Graham - I saw a couple come up at £150 or less on the forums a month or two back - so don't give up hope ..... the bigger problem will be one coming up at the right time for you.

I also saw some software that can take your PCIII map, together with the base map in the chip you're running and combine them into a custom map on a new EPROM .... though you do need the right EPROM programmer.

It sounds like a good way to run your chosen custom map if you only borrow a PCIII.

I was specifically warned off US PC3s by Neil, although I'm well aware that may be more down to 'protecting the home meerkat'

In any case, shipment times to the UK from the US precludes one for what I need at the moment. But thanks for the heads-up.

Andy, that sounds like the best approach; a hybrid PC3/EPROM bastard love-child thang... I was initially intending to get all my mods done, then get Gabro to bake a chip for me. Now it seems to have become a bit more complicated...

There is no difference with US PCIIIs - the only issue is that in UK, Power Commander will not honour any warranty of PCIIIs bought elsewhere.

Mine was bought from the USA - not by me, I bought it second-hand from the original owner.

and as an international company - the warranty would have to be honoured by the parent company - I think it was sony that got their fingers burned on that one a few years back.... i could be wrong though

I suspected as much. But I'm also practised in the arts of listening to a franchised main dealer and sifting through the bullshit...

Indeed .... but I believe that people have had difficulties ... at least, that's what I heard

Cheers for the VW heads-up Noeli0, but it got so bad I had to take the bus into my local battery emporium and get a new Varta battery fitted. I am now a few pence short of £100 lighter...

Just a thought - will a PC3 from an RSV or Tuono (or Futura or Caponord for that matter) be OK for the Falco? It's all about which map is loaded, isn't it?

And what's the going rate for a secondhand PC3 these days, anyway?

Yes, although they have different Power Commander part numbers, the PCIIIs for the Falco, Mille and old-shape Tuono are all the same - except they come with different maps pre-loaded ..... but as you'll be changing the map - and can download a large range from the Power Commander site, it really doesn't matter.

The new shape RSVR/Factory and Tuono have different Power commanders (they have a CAN multiplex bus and also a closed loop fuelling system).
The FutFut and Capo also have power commanders that are not compatible.
