Howdoo :)
We all know the bike takes fair a while to warm up properly.
Unfortunately, early on my commute I have to pass a few lights, which are always RED

and the bike has stalled a few times when kicking into gear.
However once warmed up to about 60C it's fine.
So... knowing our "choke" isn't exactly a a choke, can it be left on till the bike reaches about 60C degrees?
Cheers

You wont do any harm by leaving it open, it'll just crank up your tickover - the ECU takes care of the fuel metering

Yes - what anzac says.
I close my fast idle when it gets above 44C - but that's just personal preference.
I too have an urban commute with a number of junctions and traffic lights.

This sounds like a problem with clutch drag. Mine does that especially for a couple of months after an oil change when it is still getting fully warmed through. Though I'm not commuting with mine I can imagine it could be problematic. It's tempting to run the engine tickover a bit faster, but I wonder if that's the best solution.
There was a thread a while back about changing the clutch jet size (if memory serves) to cure this. I'll see if I can get the right info. It's on my todo list.

This is one of the articles I was thinking of. Changing the jet size reduces clutch drag (so the theory goes). It might be a contributing factor.

Yeah, but that jet is for neutral isn't it? I'm in that thread, still have the jet (on the shelf

).

I gradually ease my fast idle off as I go, shutting it right down when the temp reads 55. The bike seems to be happy with that.

Same for me, if I don't have time to fully warm it up first, I gradually ease it off until warmed up.

I switched plugs to 8's from std. 9's at the beginning of the year warms up much quicker and plugs stay real clean. Have had them out twice to check & they are spotless, not burnt or anything either.
In summer, temp can rise if stuck in traffic for a while, but we ain't supposed to be at in traffic are we!

The key point that I picked up on is stalling when kicked into gear. That says clutch drag to me and that's exactly what mine does until thoroughly warmed up. The other issue is not slipping easily into neutral until warm. I'm sure I have read that the clutch jet helps with both symptoms.
Always willing to be proved wrong, so when I get round to changing the jet on mine, I'll post my experience.
Cheers.

Yes indeed - it should help.

...interesting thread, given my historical starting woes

FYI My new yuasa battery is doing a fine job here as the weather freezes over
