Tired clutch springs

My bike has been in to RR Racing to sort out my forks. Thanks to Martin from the forum, these have been put back together. I mentioned to Alan who is RR Racing that the clutch was spinning up slightly at a recent track day. He suspected the clutch springs and found they were past their service limit. My bike has done 25k. I think it's an easy and cheap change (I'll find out tomorrow). This might be why some people have mentioned clutch slip on the Falco in relation to a change of oil.

is a thought reggie but - the change of oil depends on the type of oil

later models can use full synth, early ones cannot

(There are a couple of exceptions but....)

I know i tried full synth for all of 100 miles... slipped more than a slippy thing in a slippy place....

I'm surprised that none of you riders of older Falcos, the ones that to work at all require a special blend of oil drawn from the deceased bodies of abisinian flees blended with an extract of an exotic herb found only on the foothills of a remote mountain in patagonia mixed by hand by an essex virgin have thought about fitting one of the nice reliable clutches from the more modern Falcos .... you know, the ones that don't have their top speeds automatically limited by your PSC device.

(PSC = Permanent Slipper Clutch)

It was sounding plausible until you mentioned the 'Essex virgin'.. At that point I knew you were making it all up. :smt003

Clutch Slip + Springs...

Hi all,

One thought on the clutch springs, on fleebay there are some ducati springs with collars and a free allen key for sale :smt002 Will they fit our beast's ?

Mine does slip when I give it a handful and find that going to sixth from fifth I open it up and it revvs then comes back down for a split second then grip's and goes back up :smt017

So, will probably scratch up the metal plates and change the springs if these ducati one's are OK

So what's the difference between the earlier and later clutch? :smt017

What the technical changes are, I really don't know - I've never seen them described - though it is widely reported that Aprilia did rework the clutch and only (some of) the early bikes suffer the clutch slip issues through use of fully synth oil - the later ones are fine.
I'm not sure which ones are OK and which ones aren't but I think it may only be the Crow Black and Fire Red ones that suffered.

Yep - mine's Black.

I put some 10/40 semi synth in a while back and it was slipping within a couple of weeks.

Changed to 10/50 but its the same.

Next job is to roughen the steels and if that doesn't work I might go down the clutch spring route

Clutch pack thickness is extremely important on the V60 motor. Get it out and measure it. If it's under the specified thickness then it needs replacing.

My 2000MY doesn't like fully-synth. It doesn't like the clutch pack being undersize either...

Mines fine with semi - always run the stuff. Its the full synth she hates
