Quick question, what is the minimum thickness required on my front discs before I need to change them? They are currently at 4.5mm and are the stock Brembo's

I'm pretty sure 4.5mm is the limit... but I may be wrong

I thought it was 4mm? Can't remember now.

Manual says 4.5mm

Looks like it's time for a change then, got some pads on order already. OEM Brembo or has anyone used the EBC discs?

Recently fitted EBC's on my Fut. They seem to work just as well as the OEMs, after they & the new pads were bedded in . And they're a hell of a sight cheaper than Brembo's.

Just ordered the EBC Prolite discs, so will see how well they get on in the winter:)

I've had EBC Prolite Contour discs on the front now for nearly two years.
They give a good bite and feedback but do tend to mark up quite badly, Griff commented on this when he did my throttle bodies.
The rear was fitted last winter, and the first one went through a set of pads in 500 miles.
It were replaced by EBC as a gesture of goodwill.
They blamed the fitting of Carbon Lorraine pads.
The new one was fitted with EBC pads and seems to be doing OK.

There is about 0.5mm runout on the front discs, and the bobbins are solid.
I've contacted EBC but got no reply, regarding the run out or the bobbins.

Had a look at my discs and they said 4.0mm, so good job I ordered some new ones!

Got the EBC's fitted and new pads, only to find that the front right caliper is siezing. Looks like I am going to have to strip the caliper off and try and clean the piston or worse change the seals!

Good excuse to fit the new Titax levers that arrived today and the HEL lines that should be on the way though:)

i can second that, got mine a little cheaper though.

My MOT bloke never measured the thickness, he used to say you know when you need to replace them, they overheat and braking fades away.

I had EBC full flaoting discs on my BB they were great but they rusted in the wet (IE if you left the bike parked up for a week without freeing the pads they jambed). BTW I always used soft pads, they give better braking IMO and it isn't as if pads cost much.

I'm not a fan of sintered pads, they are far too aggressive on discs, even stainless ones. I'd always go with a good organic pad (like Ferodo Platinum). They may wear out quicker, but your discs will last far longer.

Sintered pads give better braking in the wet and require less pad warmth to work well.
