Forks Fiasco

My forks have been terrible and finally they went in for a check - the internals are all knackered. It seems someone made a butcher job at some point in the past. The options are to fix them or buy second hand. A rebuild by maxton should result in super forks that last, but will cost £300. Anyone got any spares or suggestions?

While you can get 2nd hand for under that you wont really know what you are getting plus you get no guarantee.
Go for a Maxton rebuild that way you know exactly what you are getting, it will be all new components and comes with a guarantee.

Also heard good things about Reactive Suspension (York, IIRC)

The mechanic rang me earlier to say he could fix my forks with the internals of a single fork leg; even if the fork itself was bent. A fork leg like that is probably not worth much, so may try that option.

I'd buy a good 2nd hand pair of forks (Showa not Marzzochi) and send them to Gareth @ Reactive. He really does know his stuff and you'll have a superb pair of forks serviced & re-valved to suit your riding style.

Maxton are obviously very good but you pay extra over for the name and the overheads. Plently of good suspension experts out there IMHO if you know any racers (club to expert level) ask them for who they use

I've a set of Showa RSV forks I don't need - (abandoned project) if anyone's interested. All there, but need a bit of work, so wouldn't expect mega-bucks.
